Scam pc alert !!

This week we had a pc in from a customer that purchased one from a company on Facebook that sounds like Fred Flintstones shop. They paid £500 for a 'gaming pc' for their Son for Xmas. It arrived DOA. They brought it to us and we checked it out.

For £500 they had a an old 8th Gen i5 cpu. A GTX 970 !? a 2014 gpu with no modern tech. 256 sata ssd. All in a flashy case. Some 21" monitor. Even in this economy this is daylight robbery.

After explaining its trash and returning it, they are now paying us £575 and leaving with a

10th Gen i7 cpu
16gb ram
500gb nvme ssd
RTX 4060 ( +150% performance vs 970) plus all the bells and whistles of dlss etc.

Dont be a fool and fall for these scam pc's!
Just because it has a flashy case doesnt mean its any good!

Previous repair by another shop.

Top lid mounts snapped due to stiff hinges.

Let's drill through it and call it a day and charge a lot. Came to us as the other side snapped.

Our repair done properly, new lid, pair of hinges.

Charged less than previous botch repair.

Bit of maintenance today on a pre build from a popular UK system integrator.

Replace noisy cpu fan due to bearing noise

Also noticed it came from new with 1x dimm in the incorrect slot for single channel and XMP disabled.

Now leaves us with latest bios, dimm moved into the correct slot.

XMP enabled, 2666 < 3200 MT/s now customer will get the performance they paid for.

PS5 in for overheating shutdown message. After a deep clean the system was still shutting down.

So back on the bench to examine the Liquid Metal. As you can see the LM has pooled to one side leaving little cooling contact on the APU.

We don't usually remove the heatsink on a standard clean as the LM is usually fine and looking at it unnecessarily can have a detrimental effect.

In this case the system needed it.
