When I design brands I'm not looking to make it pretty, I'm looking at how I can make you commercially successful.

Because as female founders we are massively disadvantaged; usually growing our businesses without investment, without a network, and social bias.

And it's frustrating. Because you're so good at what you do, you've done the market research, you've refined your services, yet it's still not enough to be taken seriously.

A brand can change that.

Because with a brand you don't have to prove your worth. You can decide what networking event to attend, and you don't have to be vulnerable on camera to prove that you're "human".

Instead, you can concentrate on running your business.

When your brand misaligns, it does it quietly.

Branding isn't loud. It's amplified by marketing, and exampled when making a sale. But a truly aligned brand acts as structural support for your business - just there when you need it.

When a gap starts appearing between your business growth and brand, it's small:

- One day you just "fancy" a change of colour
- A few days later, you change a font to a handwriting one to look more "authentic"

But over time, it gets bigger:

- Social posts that used to take minutes, now take a few hours
- You decide not to apply for that award. You say "you don't have time", when really it's because you feel you don't look the part

When you're at this stage in business. Your brand is a need to have, not a want. You cannot get any further in business without one. Canva templates aren't going to work for the level you're at now - you need to stand out, and you can't do that with a design that 50,000 other business owners are using.

There's a moment in your business journey when you realise that the brand you created isn't representing you like it used to.

Before you could go out, talk about your business and hand over your business cards no problem, because at that stage it was okay for you to be scrappy and working things out as you go. Everyone in business does that.

Now you don't want to be seen as the beginner whose just making things work. You've refined your services, your clients, your messaging, but you're still finding yourself tweaking colours and icons for hours on your social posts. Only for them to end up in your drafts anyway.

Every business card you hand out you hastily add "I'm just trying to get rid of them before I get some more!" to hide the fact that you secretly dislike them.

You see an amazing opportunity to talk about your business, but automatically rule yourself out because "no one will care about what you want to say".

You're not tweaking and hiding your brand because you don't know who you are. Your managing the gap between who you were before, and who you're becoming. It's like your brand is a patchwork of your business journey, but what it should be doing is communicating your business growth.

Every business grows and evolves, and the job of your brand is to support it at every stage of your business journey.

At each stage of your business your brand needs to do more:
- attract clients
- attract opportunities
- attract collaborations and skilled workers

It's there to represent your reputation, your experience and knowledge.

It's fine to start by DIYing your brand. But if you want to level up your business, you need a bespoke brand that is yours to own.
