Celebrating Ada Lovelace Day – Honouring Women in STEM and the Legacy of Innovation
Today, on Ada Lovelace Day (ALD), we join the global community in celebrating the achievements of women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) — fields that continue to shape our world and drive innovation.
Named after Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815–1852) — a visionary mathematician and writer who worked alongside Charles Babbage on his proposed Analytical Engine — Ada Lovelace is often recognised as the world’s first computer programmer.
In 1843, she published what is regarded as the first computer program, an algorithm designed to calculate Bernoulli numbers. Yet perhaps her greatest contribution was her foresight: she envisioned that computing machines could create not only numbers but also music, art, and ideas — a concept a century ahead of its time.
Ada Lovelace Day, founded in 2009, continues her legacy by:
🔹 Celebrating the achievements of women in STEM
🔹 Raising awareness of their underrepresentation in technical fields
🔹 Inspiring future generations to explore careers in science and technology
🔹 Encouraging inclusivity and collaboration across disciplines
At Associated Technology Pipeline (ATP) Limited, we recognise that progress in engineering and technology is built on diversity of thought and experience. The principles that Ada Lovelace embodied — curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking — are the same qualities that drive innovation in our industry today.
We are proud to support a culture that values inclusivity, collaboration, and continuous learning, where every individual is encouraged to contribute their ideas and expertise to shape the future of technology — from pipeline integrity software to the digital tools that keep our infrastructure safe and sustainable.
