Last week, we hosted our spectacular annual Awards Evening, where we shone a spotlight on the incredible achievements and contributions of our outstanding team members.

Now, let's take a moment to applaud our award winners: Stand Out Performer – Joseph Howitt, Living Our Values – Michelle Farnsworth, Social Contributor – Ellie Yates, Team Player – Lei Blatherwick, Leadership – Pete O'Connell, Innovation – Samuel Melrose, Outstanding Customer Service – Sammi Moujahid, People's Choice – Jordan Martin.

The event also marked a significant milestone, as we raised a glass to our much-loved colleague, Miki Chauntry, who celebrates an incredible 20 years of dedicated service with the company.

This time, we’re introducing Joseph Butler - our Head of Accounts and self-styled Master of Coin. He’s been with us for around nine years now, upholding the phenomenal responsibility of managing cash flow in and out of the business – so he’s the one who makes sure every penny is accounted for!

Ask him what his favourite part about working with us at A1 Comms is, and he’ll tell you he loves working with the best people. Joe gets a lot of satisfaction from seeing his talented colleagues in Accounts and across the business develop and grow. 🌱

Outside of work, though, Joe likes to spend his time golfing and is a member at the local Alfreton Golf Course – though he’s adamant he’s an awful player! Other times, you might find him exploring and trekking around the Peak District or spending a wholesome weekend with his family. He’s also a massive Derby County fan and holds a season ticket with his son.

Though Joe doesn’t have any pets of his own, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t spend a ton of time around dogs, since he and his family do a fair bit of doggy-sitting – though good dogs only! They often take care of their friends and family’s dogs while they’re away and think of themselves as part-time dog owners minus the vet bills.

We thought it was about time everyone met Annie, our Digital Marketing Manager on the Digital Team. It’s been a little over six years since she started with us in Retail as a Marketing Assistant, before working her way up as an Executive and then an Assistant Manager. In 2021, she moved over to Digital, where she’s recently been promoted to Digital Marketing Manager.

Annie’s role is never boring, that’s for sure – she spends her days doing all sorts of work across Digital, like managing social channels, helping with email marketing and planning and coordinating our marketing campaigns and device launches. She also uses her knowledge of SEO to help make improvements across the site, contributes blog content and helps the HR team to organise our summer and Christmas events.

Her favourite part about working for A1 Comms, though, is the variety of opportunities to learn. She’s a bit of a self-professed geek, and so Annie’s constantly finding new ways to expand her knowledge base and add something new to her repertoire – which works perfectly for her varied role!

In her free time, Annie spends her evenings and weekends with friends and family – sometimes at the local pub where her partner works. She also loves a good Netflix or Disney+ binge and has recently enjoyed Virgin River and Ahsoka, to name a few. When she gets the chance, she’ll never turn down a good book, either, and she’s a creative gal, who often spends her evenings crafting handmade scrunchies.

Though Annie doesn’t have her own dog just yet, she absolutely loves a canine companion, so she’s happy whenever she gets the opportunity to dog sit or even take a friend’s pooch for a walk. 🐶

It might have been a bit damp this summer, but we haven't let that stop us from enjoying ourselves here at A1 Comms ☔

In fact, we embraced the rain and went all out for our BBQ Summer Fun Day back in early August, raising a huge £475 for Alfreton Park School! We've even got the photobooth pics to prove it.

We'd like you to say hello to Chandni, our Junior PPC Executive on the PPC team. She's been with us for one year and 3 months so far, and started out on Customer Support, quickly working her way into her current role in May 2023.

Day-to-day, Chandni's role can be pretty involved and includes managing, creating and analysing our paid search campaigns, conducting keyword research and crafting creative copy, updating prices, managing bids, monitoring trends and coming up with ideas for how we can improve the efficiency of our PPC channel. It can get busy, but Chandni takes it all in her stride and loves the progress she's made at A1 Comms – as well as the friendly atmosphere and the people she gets to work with, who she’s looking forward to getting to know better as time goes on.

When she's not hard at work, she loves a good hike in a great nature spot (when it's not hay fever season, anyway!) If she's not in the great outdoors, you'll find her reading, writing, or sipping on a delicious hot chocolate in a cosy café somewhere – which sounds quite idyllic, actually. Other times you might find her at a pub with her partner Sam, trying out different beers, playing darts or watching football ⚽️

It's time to introduce you to Sam, our Sales Performance Manager on the Sales Team. He's been with us for over ten years now, starting out in Customer Service and working his way up through Sales to Senior Sales Adviser, Team Leader, and moving into his current role last September. That's quite a journey!

Sam's days can vary quite a bit, but he spends much of his time reviewing the previous day or week's performance across the floor. Sometimes he'll find himself talking with people throughout the day, or maybe looking at targets or live listening. And of course, there's always a chance he'll be in a meeting all day long – but it's easier when you love the teams you work with, and that's Sam's favourite part about working for A1 Comms.

Outside of work, Sam's time to unwind is pretty limited for the best of reasons, since he spends it all with his wonderful 18-month-old daughter, Nora, who keeps him on his toes. And he's still dreaming of getting back to Cyprus for a sun-soaked holiday with his wife – in fact, they love Cyprus so much, they got married there in August 2022! 🌞

When Sam manages to get a little time, though, he can be found relaxing with friends and family in the pub, with a nice pint of Guinness. Or maybe out playing fetch with his cockapoo, Rupert.

When it comes to our fundraising for Alfreton Park School, we've learned that we all love a good prize draw – thanks to Ellie Yates, our Affiliate Executive.

Ellie's been on it from the start with her fundraising efforts like her popular Football Merchandise Raffle, getting in touch with plenty of well-known people in sports to bring in some truly brilliant raffle prizes. Up for grabs were items like a signed match-worn Joe Quigley Chesterfield Shirt (which raised £230 on its own!) and Gemma Lawley's signed match-worn Birmingham shirt (which raised £85!). In total, Ellie's efforts raised a massive £432 for Alfreton Park School and the Deer Shed Project.

That's not all, either. Ellie's also organised a sweepstake for the Women's World Cup this summer, raising even more money for our Community Partner and encouraging a nice bit of healthy competition between colleagues ⚽

It seems hiking is a major theme in our fundraising at A1 Comms this year, and our People and Culture Manager Ashley Kersting Holmes took on the largest mountain in Scotland this past Saturday to prove it!

Managing the climb in just under three hours, she completed the trip up and down Ben Nevis (a massive 4421ft!) in 5 hours and 45 minutes. All for the best of causes, and we couldn't be prouder! 🏔

Who knew mobile communications had its own awards season eh? Well, we did of course - because we've won another one from Three UK! 🏆

This time we've been awarded Three Contract Voice Indirect Partner of the Year 2022/2023, and we couldn't be prouder.
