🍎 Mac Tip: How Often Should You Shut Down Your MacBook?

Here’s the truth most people don’t know — you don’t need to shut down your MacBook every day. Apple designs macOS around sleep mode, and your Mac is actually quite happy staying in sleep for days at a time.

Here’s what actually works best:

💤 Daily use → Just close the lid. Sleep mode is fast, efficient, and uses barely any battery.

🔄 Once a week or so → Do a full restart. This clears memory, applies any pending updates, and keeps things running smoothly.

⚡ When to fully shut down:

• Before a long trip where you won’t use it
• If something feels sluggish or glitchy
• After installing major system updates
• If you’re storing it for more than a few days

Modern MacBooks (especially M-chip models) are incredibly efficient in sleep mode — we’re talking days of standby on a single charge. Shutting down every night is mostly an old habit from the Windows/spinning-hard-drive era.

So go ahead — stop shutting it down every night. Your Mac will thank you. 🙌

🚨 Spilled something on your MacBook? Here’s what to do — fast.

It happens to the best of us. One knocked-over coffee and suddenly your heart is in your throat. Here’s exactly what to do:

✅ Shut it down immediately — hold that power button
✅ Unplug everything
✅ Flip it upside down, tent-style, on a towel to drain
✅ Gently pat dry the outside with a lint-free cloth
✅ Wait at least 48 hours before powering back on
✅ Still worried? Bring it to Blue Apple Systems Ltd - we’re here to help!

❌ Skip the rice trick — it’s a myth and can actually cause more damage
❌ No hair dryers or heat of any kind
❌ Don’t turn it on early just to check if it works!

The first 30 seconds are critical, but patience over the next 48 hours is what really saves your machine. 💻

And let this be your reminder to back up your data — iCloud, Time Machine, whatever works for you. You’ll thank yourself later! 🙏

We recommend to customers that they store their data in 3 locations. For most Mac users, the easiest way to do this is on your Mac, in iCloud and to have an external back-up. Apple's 'built in' software, called Time Machine, comes free with every Mac. All you need in addition is an external hard drive to store your Time Machine back up on. Read Macworld's article on Time Machine to find out more.
