🍎 Mac Tip: How Often Should You Shut Down Your MacBook?
Here’s the truth most people don’t know — you don’t need to shut down your MacBook every day. Apple designs macOS around sleep mode, and your Mac is actually quite happy staying in sleep for days at a time.
Here’s what actually works best:
💤 Daily use → Just close the lid. Sleep mode is fast, efficient, and uses barely any battery.
🔄 Once a week or so → Do a full restart. This clears memory, applies any pending updates, and keeps things running smoothly.
⚡ When to fully shut down:
• Before a long trip where you won’t use it
• If something feels sluggish or glitchy
• After installing major system updates
• If you’re storing it for more than a few days
Modern MacBooks (especially M-chip models) are incredibly efficient in sleep mode — we’re talking days of standby on a single charge. Shutting down every night is mostly an old habit from the Windows/spinning-hard-drive era.
So go ahead — stop shutting it down every night. Your Mac will thank you. 🙌
