It's ! Meet Chris Marshall, our Senior IT Infrastructure Analyst⚡ Chris shares his love of solving business challenges & how Shakespeare fits into his out-of-hours interests! 📜 ✍

🔹Can you describe your role at Evolve iMS and what a typical day looks like for you? - I head up the IT Infrastructure and Support Team. I'm responsible for making sure our clients' technical support and development needs are being met. While you'll find me keeping an eye on the various tools we use to monitor and maintain our services, I'm just as likely to be helping the team deliver first-class, remote support, working with clients face-to-face to develop their IT estate, or on-site with my sleeves rolled up solving technical challenges! 💪

🔹What inspired you to pursue a career in IT, and what do you enjoy most about your job? - My career in IT was probably kicked off the moment I got my first IBM PS/1 Pro, booted into Windows 3.0, and started tinkering with it. Nothing sits still in the world of technology, and what was right yesterday can be wrong today, so keeping things fresh is a perpetual challenge. Solving business challenges with technology is hugely satisfying; but for me, delivering it in a clear, simple, and cost-effective manner is the most enjoyable, and rewarding goal.

🔹What is one of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on at Evolve and what was your key contribution? - IT solutions often comprise of multiple components, delivered by the expertise of an experienced team. Big brands and long-established platforms give us the tools we need, but the detail is always in the business challenge they set out to solve and what the 'glue' is that makes the tool work for the situation. Developing DataSquirrel, our in-house Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery solution, is an exciting project; combining an array of fantastic, established business backup and recovery tools with our own 'Launch Control' to provide a white-glove BCDR solution for the SME sector.

🔹How do you stay current with the latest trends and advancements in data management and technology? - There's no shortage of resources for us to keep current, but I get the most value from listening to, and chiming in on discussions within the MSP tech community online. Many of the most innovative new tech companies exist on these platforms, so they are a great way to stay current on what's new while keeping an eye on what's popular. It's also a great way to get ahead of problems early, as incidents often get discussed in these forums before they are globally widespread.

🔹When you're not working with IT, what are some of your favourite hobbies or interests? - I'm currently studying part-time with the Open University for an Arts Degree in Creative Writing; a wonderful (if somewhat demanding!) way of switching off from the digital world and exploring subjects ranging from Shakespeare in literature to Socrates in philosophy ✍

🔹 Can you describe your role at Evolve iMS and what a typical day looks like for you? – My days are very varied depending on the projects I work on. I can be doing anything from facilitating workshops and analysing requirements to project & task management or delivering training. Most of what I do involves working closely with people to understand their needs and helping them get the best out of their tools ⌨

🔹 What inspired you to pursue a career in consultancy, and what do you enjoy most about your job? – I have always been interested in helping people and that led me to a training role in the Microsoft space. From there I learned of all the tools that can make mundane tasks quicker, bring teams together and streamline processes. There’s so much you can achieve with the Power Platform and the M365 productivity suite and I love to inspire others to find ways to free up time to do more interesting tasks. It can be a huge change for people, so one of the best parts is providing support to make sure solutions are adopted effectively 🖥

🔹 What is one of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on at Evolve and what was your key contribution? – My current project is an analysis and information management project in the energy sector. It brings together my key skills in working closely with teams across the business to understand their pain points and key requirements, help them find better ways of managing information and collaborating effectively, and provide training on the tools they are unfamiliar with. It’s a broadly scoped project which has aspects of analysis, change management, training, support, and solution design 💻

🔹 How do you stay current with the latest trends and advancements in data management and technology? - Because I work with people, as much as I do with technology, it’s important for me to know about new tools and features, but it’s more important for me to learn how others are benefitting from them in real-world scenarios. Case studies are critical to bringing stories to life and really help people visualise the value of their digital transformation, so resources like LinkedIn and the Microsoft communities are critical for me to keep up with my peers in the change management and Power Platform spaces ⚡

🔹 When you're not working with Microsoft tools, what are some of your favourite hobbies or interests? – When I’m not indoors working, I like to be outside whenever I can. I am a keen gardener and I love spending time in green spaces 👩‍🌾 Visiting the more remote and rugged parts of the country with wild scenery helps me reset ⛰

Srinivas Ravi, Data Analyst:

Can you describe your role at Evolve iMS and what a typical day looks like for you?
🔹 As a Data Analyst at Evolve, my primary role is to work on large datasets, analysing the data, data cleansing, creating reports and, visualising data in ways that support business goals. My day starts with checking emails, attending daily meetings, performing ETL jobs, developing PowerBI reports and giving some time to learn new tools and techniques emerging in the Data field 💻

What inspired you to pursue a career in data management, and what do you enjoy most about your job?
🔹 In my first job at IBM, I got good exposure to Data management procedures and challenges, working there inspired me to pursue my Master’s in data science which helped me to learn the new techniques and tools involved in modern data management. I enjoy the problem-solving aspect of data management the most. Every data set has a unique challenge, and I love figuring out the best ways to analyse and fix it. Each analysis is like solving a puzzle! 🧩

What is one of the most exciting projects you’ve worked on at Evolve and what was your key contribution?
🔹 Every project in Evolve is exciting, among them one of the most thrilling projects I worked on was HR data migration for an energy sector client. The main aim of the project was to merge the data from different HR portals and migrate the data to SuccessFactors. My key contribution was writing advanced SQL queries to extract the data and perform a detailed analysis of the existing data, developing a data cleansing strategy, and executing the data migration using advanced ETLtools in different phases. The successful completion of the project enabled the organisation to use a single HR portal for all its employees across the globe 🌏

How do you stay current with the latest trends and advancements in data management and technology?
🔹 I stay current with the latest trends and advancements by keeping a robust network of professional contacts in the data management and technology sectors. I also take advantage of online learning platforms, like LinkedIn Learning, where you can take courses on the latest technologies and methodologies and complete the course with certification 🤖

When you're not working with data, what are some of your favourite hobbies or interests?
🔹 One of my favourite hobbies is playing sports, particularly cricket and badminton 🏏 It is a great way to stay active and relieve stress.

Additionally, I enjoy travelling and exploring different places, which allows me to try various cuisines ✈ 🍝 There is something incredibly refreshing about being outdoors 🌿
