Caleycom

Caleycom Our mission is to bring fast wireless broadband to areas of Aberdeenshire not covered by traditional providers. We provide Fast, Reliable Broadband.

Caleycom was established in 2010 to provide fast broadband and ultimately next generation broadband to Kinmuck and the surrounding area that dont have acceptable broadband coverage and are unlikely to be included in the recent Government Roll Out. Due to other work the previous owners decided to hand over the service to Aberdeen Technical Services, a local company specialising in CCTV, security an

d telecoms systems in October 2013. With a workforce of 24 people including installation and system engineers we are now able to offer a quicker response to fault s and installations. In addition to the Broadband Service we can offer a complete CCTV design and installation service with remote monitoring and Internet phone connections enabling you to cancel you traditional landline phone. If you are out of the catchment area for the Wireless Internet coverage we can supply and install Satellite Broadband Services.

This work was completed successfully last night.

All customers fed from this core mast now have protection against power cuts by a massive 7 KWh of batteries - enough to run the average home for around a day! - as well as an auto start diesel generator with a 100 litre tank of fuel.

We were keen to get this work completed before the Christmas break

**DUE TO FACTORS OUTSIDE OF OUR CONTROL, THIS WORK HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR NOW AND IS PROJECTED TO TAKE PLACE NOW ON THE EVENING OF MONDAY THE 19TH**

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CUSTOMERS SERVED BY OUR CAIRN MON EARN / DURRIS MAST:

Last week we suffered a couple of faults impacting customers whose connection goes via our mast at Cairn Mon Earn near Durris.

In order to get everyone back online as quickly as possible we had to bypass our battery backup system at this site as this was the root cause of the issue.

We have since then purchased upgraded battery backup hardware and had it air freighted to us from the USA in order to minimize the time that this critical site was on reduced redundancy

Those parts have now arrived and we are keen to get them fitted as quick as possible to avoid any potential unplanned outages.

To do this we intent to go to the site this evening at around 9pm to install the new battery hardware and have the site fully protected against power cuts.

This site also has an automatic starting diesel generator however the batteries are critical for two reasons:

To keep everything running whilst the generator starts and reached operating speeds
To keep things online in the event the generator either does not start OR runs out of fuel
For this reason we have taken the decision to install the battery hardware tonight as the next available slot for us would be monday evening and we want to avoid the possibility of any unplanned outages over the weekend.

We do appreciate that this may cause some inconvenience as the outage will happen at short notice however we believe the the potential for an unexpected outage with no notice, that could last for many hours in a worst case scenario, is worse and for that reason we have decided to press on with the work tonight.

Downtime for most customers is expect to be in the region of 15-30 minutes

Thank you all for your understanding and patience during these essential works

UPDATE: We believe the fault is now cleared thanks to the efforts of Graham getting up the hill to Carin Mon Earn and swapping the switch over

We are currently experiencing significant strain across the Deeside and Edzell networks due to one of our core sights failing as a result of the unprecedented rainfall we are experiencing.
Customers on these networks may find they have slower speeds than normal due to being transferred to a different link in order to try and keep everyone online.
We aim to have this fixed over the weekend-Monday evening at latest.
Peak usage times tend to be 1800-2300 daily. If users could avoid unnecessary downloads during these hours it would greatly benefit everyone on the network.

We are currently dealing with a downer link between Cairn Mon Earn and Portlrthen whigh carrives a lot of the traffic for our Deeside and Edzell area networks.

We have temporarily migrated all connections to the secondary link via Banchory however the increased load on this will result in slower than normal speeds for almost all users.

We are working as hard as we can to restore this link however if it requires climbing the tower then this will not happen today on Safety grounds and will instead be carried out on Monday

We will continue to monitor the weather over the coming days to make sure we can react to any outages caused by adverse weather.

We have already seen a couple of power cuts today caused by the weather and expect more to follow.

*** Weather warning ***

❗ The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in Aberdeen from 3pm TOMORROW to 6pm on FRIDAY. ❗

The forecast is for a spell of persistent - and at times - heavy rainfall, leading to a risk of flooding.

- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- Should flooding occur, delays or cancellations to train and bus services are likely
- There is a small chance that some communities may be temporarily cut off by flooded roads

We are aware of a major incident affecting many customers broadband access this morning.

At around 00:15 a fibre cable carrying several of our connections south of Aberdeen was damaged in a suspected cable theft incident.

Engineers have been working on the incident since around 1AM and now have identified the fault and laid a new cable.

However for safety reasons an emergency lane closure of the A92 / A956 Junction which is currently being put into place. As soon as this lane closure is in place engineers will begin splicing the new cable into the network and restore service.

As soon as we have further updates be will send this out to all customers

5th generator of the day filled with 75l of diesel for customers in Deeside areas.

We are currently aware of a loss of service for customers around Inverurie and surrounding areas. An engineer is on route now to find out why the generator has cut out.

We also know that customers around Laurencekirk are down due to a power cut last night. We are trying to source a generator for this site but many of our usual sources are sold out.

Well, Last night was wild!

We are currently in the process of assessing damage and trying to restore service to as many areas as we can as quickly as possible.

At this stage we'll be unable to provide realistic ETAs for service restoration but we will keep everyone up to date as often as we can via Email and SMS messages

Thank you for your patience during these challenging times

Storm Malik is sweeping across the region this morning and we are continuing to monitor the impact on the network.

A number of small relay sites are currently offline, but these typically only serve a couple of customers in close proximity to the site, so in the vast majority of cases all customers will be affected by lack of power also.

Our key sites (with one exception below) are all either online or being kept online by our battery backup systems. Our fibre optic site at Potarch for example has been running on battery power since 6:40 this morning.

the one exception to this is Thainstone, we cannot yet determine if this is power related of a damaged overhead fibre line - an engineer is on route there this morning to confirm. This will be impacting users in and around Inverurie, Blackburn/Kinellar, Tertowie and Clinterty
