vejmarie one of our hackers just released his built script to adapt Ubuntu Xenial installer and kernel on top of Open Compute Servers running NERF as a low level firmware environment. Associated with them you can now install and enjoy Ubuntu Server (16.04LTS) on a Winterfell server running NERF.

NERF aims to integrate linux as closed as possible to the hardware init by removing the needs of complex buggy UEFI environment and leveraging the knowledge accumulated within the linux kernel development. Associated with U-Root a lightweight user space environment written in Go it does represents the fastest and potentially the most flexible way to boot a server.

A special thanks to Guillaume Giamarchi to have automatized the NERF build, the linuxboot team, the NERF team, Ron Minnich and many people at Google without whom this project couldn't be where it stands.
