Family heirlooms carry more than financial value. They carry memories, relationships, and pieces of family history.

But the information surrounding them can be easier to lose than we think.

Families change. Objects change hands. And the people who know their stories won’t always be there to tell them.
Keeping receipts, photographs, appraisals, provenance, and other records can help preserve an object’s documented history.

Recording the personal side, who it belonged to, why it mattered, and the memories attached to it, preserves something just as important.

At Ethereal, we believe both deserve to be carried forward: the record that establishes what an object is, and the story that explains why it matters.

Because the best time to preserve a story is while it’s still yours to tell.

A piece of history, connected to a personal milestone.

The Prada 1913 Bag became part of our founder Sarvenaz’s own story when she carried it to her first Vogue event, bringing more than a century of Prada heritage into a meaningful moment of her own.

It’s these moments that add another layer to an object’s story, the places it goes, the occasions it becomes part of, and the memories we attach to it.

Because an object’s story doesn’t end with its history. It continues with you.

First designed by Mario Prada in 1913, this archival design is distinguished by one of its most unusual details: a hand-carved clasp depicting a mythological figure.

More than a century later, Prada brought the design back for Spring/Summer 2024 carrying its craftsmanship and history into the present.

Last month, our founder Sarvenaz had the opportunity to spend time in Paris during Fashion Week, connecting with collectors, founders, artisans, and creatives from different backgrounds.

Beyond the shows and the beautiful pieces, it was the conversations that stayed with her, conversations around craftsmanship, heritage, collecting, and the stories we carry through the objects we choose to keep.

One conversation in particular stayed with her: a collector shared that her collection only truly felt like hers because she knew the story behind every piece.

It’s a thought Sarvenaz brought home with her, and one that continues to resonate as we build Ethereal, creating a way to preserve not only the pieces in a collection, but the memories and stories that make them personal.

What happens when a luxury house preserves nearly 200 years of its own history?

During Paris Fashion Week, our founder, Sarvenaz Ghattan, visited La Maison Delvaux in Belgium, home to more than 3,000 handbags that tell the story of the world’s oldest luxury leather goods house.

Walking through the archives was a reminder that luxury isn’t only about craftsmanship, it’s about preserving provenance, history, and the stories behind every piece.
