Amazon has launched a new augmented reality application that works with QR codes on the company’s shipping boxes to create “interactive, shareable” AR experiences. Called “Amazon Augmented Reality,” the retailer describes the app as a “fun way to reuse your Amazon boxes until you’re ready to drop them in the recycling bin.”

App manufacturers, including and , will have to seek explicit consent when attempting to collect and share personal that allows advertising companies to build out a personalised profile of users. Facebook, Inc., where a significant portion of luxury firms direct their advertising spend has attacked the changes, saying in a public blog post last week that it “believes that industry consultation is critical for changes to platform policies”. For the luxury industry that caters to a select group of potential customers, that could be a significant blow.
