The LCD-X is probably one of the most misunderstood headphones in pro audio.

Many engineers dismiss it because of:
– the midrange dip
– its sensitivity to source gear
– differences between versions

And yet.

Used properly, it’s one of the most capable headphones I’ve tested:

– extremely low distortion
– deep, clean bass extension
– very high level of detail

The issue isn’t the headphone, it’s how it’s used.

What actually matters:
– post-2021 version
– proper EQ (SoundID, Reveal+ or custom)
– low output impedance amp

Under those conditions, it becomes a serious working tool.

Personally: LCD-X + Neumann MT 48 → very solid.

Core is now officially available on iOS, bringing full mobile control to the Element IV ecosystem.

With this long-awaited release, Element IV users can now adjust onboard DSP, parametric EQ, headphone presets, listening profiles and device settings directly from an iPhone or iPad — without needing to open desktop software.

Unlike software-based EQ solutions, all processing happens inside the hardware itself. Profiles are stored directly in the Element IV, meaning your tuning remains active regardless of the connected source, whether it’s a computer, streamer or transport.

The arrival of iOS support completes the Core platform rollout across desktop, Android and now Apple devices, significantly improving everyday usability and system integration.

Released alongside firmware v1.7.4, this update also brings stability improvements and communication refinements developed during the iOS implementation process.

Element IV continues to evolve as a platform rather than a fixed DAC/headphone amplifier, gaining new functionality over time through firmware and software updates.

The Alien8 is a figure-8 dynamic mic designed for low-frequency sources that still need midrange detail and presence.

Kick drums, bass amps, guitar amps — big lows, focused mids, instant impact.

Inside the Alien8 are two identical 50 mm headphone drivers, used as microphone capsules.
One faces forward.
One faces backward.
Both are figure-8.

Just like some ribbon mics, the front and rear lobes sound different.

A 3-position switch lets you choose your sound:
Top capsule → brighter, more attack
Bottom capsule → more body and weight
Both capsules → the best of both worlds

All settings remain figure-8.
