What can artificial intelligence still reveal about a manuscript copied more than two thousand years ago?

The Great Isaiah Scroll — 1QIsaᵃ, found at Qumran in 1947, copied around 125 BCE — is the oldest biblical book preserved almost in full: seven metres of parchment, 54 columns of Hebrew, now on complete display for the first time since 1968.

In 2021, a team of researchers applied pattern recognition and artificial intelligence to its handwriting. Where the human eye saw a single hand, the analysis distinguishes two scribes, with a shift around columns 27 and 28.

AI replaces neither the palaeographer nor the historian. It makes visible what time had almost erased: the human gesture behind the text. And it casts fresh light on a question at the heart of my work — transmission: how a text crosses centuries, is copied, corrected, and endures.

The parchment ages. The words remain.

Il est des moments qui n’ont pas besoin de grands discours. Un lieu, une lumière, une présence, et le temps semble simplement ralentir.
À l’Hôtel La Batelière, à Schœlcher, face à la mer des Caraïbes, nous avons partagé l’un de ces instants simples que l’on aime garder en mémoire.
La Martinique, ses palmiers, sa lumière et cette douceur particulière des journées au bord de la mer. Mais au-delà du décor, ce sont toujours les personnes avec lesquelles nous partageons ces moments qui leur donnent leur véritable valeur.
Un souvenir à deux, quelque part entre la lumière des Caraïbes et la simplicité d’un instant partagé.

What if we soon no longer needed to open our software at all?

For forty years, we have clicked through menus, filled in forms, and executed every action ourselves. AI agents propose a different logic: we state a request, and the agent acts on our behalf, using several applications to produce the final result.

This may be the next great computing revolution. But it raises serious questions: reliability, security, accountability… and above all, who will control the agents that control our tools?

Has Europe already lost the AI race?

That's what we keep hearing. The US dominates. China is accelerating. Europe is said to be condemned to depend on technologies built elsewhere.

I don't believe that. And it's exactly what I explore in episode 18 of my series "Décryptage stratégique IA."

Because Europe's real lag is not scientific. It is industrial and strategic. Europe trains some of the world's best researchers. Its universities and engineering schools remain internationally recognised. It is home to strategic players like Mistral AI and ASML — whose machines are essential to the global production of the most advanced semiconductors.

Europe's problem is not a lack of intelligence. It is the difficulty of turning its skills into collective economic power.

Artificial intelligence has become an economic, industrial, energy, and geopolitical issue. Digital sovereignty will not be built on words alone.

But the window is not yet closed.

A few years ago, I was a DevOps systems administrator. I managed servers, containers, pipelines.

Today, I know how to build a neural network by hand. And it's not as complicated as you might think.

I hold the professional qualification of DevOps Systems Administrator — a level 6 certification (equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree), awarded by the French Ministry of Labour, earned at the GRETA of lycée Claude Garamont in Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine), under the Versailles academy. My former instructor, Mustapha Younsi, just published a complete 11-video YouTube series to understand the basics of AI — no jargon, with concrete Python code, step by step.

I followed the whole series and created study guides for each video. I wrote about it on my blog.

I submitted the same voice message to 5 different AI tools. The results surprised me.

Word, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Mistral AI do not pursue the same goal. Some transcribe. Others understand. And it is not always the expected one that wins.

The test's surprise: Le Chat by Mistral AI — a French solution — produces the cleanest raw transcription. And ChatGPT remains the best at reconstructing the meaning of an imperfect sentence.

The detail that changes everything? Ergonomics. In daily use, ease of use matters almost as much as model quality.
