A DAY AT AUCTION

I travelled to Bordeaux for an auction I had been looking forward to for quite some time.

This collection is particularly meaningful to me. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to visit its owner after discovering the connection we shared through the history of writing.

Being able to examine them up close today and take part in the sale was a truly memorable experience. The day was also a successful one, as several items including these inks posters are coming back with me. I can’t wait to share them with you and tell you more about their stories.

FROM A HIGHWAY REST STOP

One of the things I enjoy about Instagram is how it lets us share stories that are completely disconnected from where we happen to be at that moment.

Right now, I’m sitting at a rather unattractive highway rest stop, just a few hours away from my final destination: Bordeaux.

Yet today I’m posting photos of the treasures I discovered yesterday afternoon at the market in Carpentras. It’s a reminder that we can be anywhere while continuing to tell the stories of somewhere else.

Tomorrow brings another adventure: I’ll be attending an auction featuring a collection of writing-related antiques and collectibles. I’m already looking forward to sharing whatever fascinating finds emerge from that experience.

WEEK-END = BROCANTE

When I shared my list of summer flea markets, it was simply to answer the questions I get all the time. I didn’t expect it to generate even more! 😅

“What about September?”
“What about the North?”
“What about the Basque Coast?”

To sum it up: I live in Arles, so I mainly visit the brocantes around me… and sometimes a little farther away. But I’m not a tour guide!

Graphic designer, entrepreneur, flea market dealer, typographer, publisher: yes. Tour guide: no. 😇

If you’re planning a trip to the South of France, there’s one thing to remember: there are flea markets every Saturday and every Sunday. And don’t worry… there are plenty elsewhere too!

Here are a few photos from the fantastic Carpentras flea market this morning. I came home very happy with my finds.

Tomorrow, I’ll be back on the road, heading to Bordeaux. I’ll share the whole adventure in my stories!

A little preview for today live sale ! It will be at 8 PM today Paris time (get notification in stories countdown). For all new followers here is how it work:

1️⃣ I do a live video to present everything in details at 8 PM

2️⃣ When the live video is finish (10 to 20 minutes), I post 20 photos with references for each item and prices in comments.

3️⃣ If you want something you need to claim in comment the reference. First claimed get it. I confirm if you get it or not. I update the list as often as possible but it a rush hour…

A FEW MORE GLIMPSES OF THE STUDIO

A few more photos of the studio and the objects that surround me.

Here, everything blends together: what I keep, what I sell, and what I simply cannot part with. But these past few years have taught me how to separate things and keep perspective. After all, they are only objects.

And yet, it’s incredible how many memories, symbols, and stories they can hold.

New paper and photography listings will be available tomorrow, Saturday. With a very busy week ahead and plenty of time spent on the road, it’s the only window I have to share new finds with you.

I’ve already started shipping May orders thanks to a new organization and the precious help of my family.

THE JOY OF A BIG ORGANIZING SESSION

I don’t like putting things away little by little. I prefer letting them pile up and then tackling everything at once. A bit like in Amélie, which remains my absolute reference. I love the narrator’s voice when he describes the characters’ small habits and pleasures, especially when he says that Amélie’s father enjoys emptying his toolbox, carefully cleaning it, and putting everything back in its proper place.

I can relate to that feeling so much. There is something incredibly satisfying about having a lot of things to sort through and then organizing everything: putting things back where they belong, arranging them by color, size, or category, and watching order emerge from chaos.

OUTSIDE
One thing that has stayed with me from my days as a graphic designer is that I’m always much more productive when I have a deadline. It works just as well for Brocante drops as it does when I’m expecting visitors like today .

Over the past couple of days, we took the opportunity to tidy up and reorganize the studio a bit, especially the outdoor area. These are often the kind of small projects you keep putting off, but they feel incredibly satisfying once they’re done. I also took plenty of other photos that I’ll be sharing little by little.

And it was quite satisfying to see all those sign letters gathered in one place. There are lots of Ms, Rs, Cs, and Us—and, of course, plenty of Ps.
