Enjoying your August holidays by the sea? ☀️🌊

During this peak summer month, coastal and maritime tourism reaches its highest point across the Atlantic Region. To ensure our beaches and oceans remain protected and vibrant, sustainable tourism is essential!

5 Quick Blue Eco-Tourism tips for this summer:

💙 Respect wildlife and marine ecosystems — observe animals from a distance and avoid disturbing nesting or breeding areas.

🚯 Leave no trace — take all your rubbish with you and never leave waste on beaches, coastal trails or in the sea.

🏖️ Protect dunes and coastal vegetation — stay on marked paths and avoid trampling fragile habitats.

💧 Save water and resources — especially in coastal destinations affected by summer droughts and high visitor numbers.

Small choices can make a big difference to the coastlines we love. 🌊

🏖️ What eco-friendly habits do you practice when visiting the coast? Tell us in the comments and help spread the word! 👇

Why innovation in the Blue Economy can't wait. 🚢🌊

Maritime transport is the backbone of European trade, but its environmental impact can no longer be ignored. According to the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), maritime shipping is responsible for 14.2% of all CO2 emissions from the EU transport sector.
As we approach the EU's 2030 climate targets under the 'Fit for 55' package, driving sustainability through data and digital technology is crucial.
That is why ADT4Blue, co-funded by the Interreg Atlantic Area and powered by our robust regional consortium, is working hard to accelerate clean-tech startups and new solutions for the maritime sector. 🚀

🌊 Big Waves for ADT4Blue in Madeira! 🏆

Last week, the ADT4Blue project took the stage at the Digital Transformation Summit 2026 in beautiful Madeira. We were honored to participate in a high-impact workshop titled: "Digital solutions and innovations enabling healthier, safer and more resilient waters and oceans."

The session was a powerhouse of collaboration, bringing together 7 EU-funded project EFFECTIVE, Restore4Life, AUTOASSESS, REMEDIES, iMERMAID EU, TASC RestoreMed and ADT4Blue - Advanced Digital Technologies for the Blue Economy to showcase the future of our oceans. From environmental monitoring and marine litter detection to ecosystem restoration, the room was buzzing with concrete digital solutions designed to protect our blue planet.

🚀 Highlighting Innovation
During the session, Pedro Roseiro from Inova-Ria - Associação de Empresas para uma Rede de Inovação em Aveiro, our ADT4Blue speaker, took the stage to present the pioneering projects selected under Open Call 2. These innovators are currently deep in development within the ADT4Blue OC2 Programme, and seeing their progress shared on such a prestigious stage was a proud moment for the whole team. You can learn about the projects’ here.

🏅 We Took Home the Gold!
To top it all off, we are beyond thrilled to share that our session received the BEST WORKSHOP Award!
The judges recognised the session for excellence in:

🌊 Reflecting on an incredible session yesterday for our ADT4Blue OC2 Programme participants!

🌐 It was a privilege to host Sheila Heymans (Executive Director), Paula Kellet (Deputy Executive Officer), and Lily Bucher (Junior Science Office Intern) and to learn more about the fantastic work promoting the European Blue Economy.

🚀 As the leading European think tank in marine science policy, the EMB has been making waves since 1995. Their insights into the big picture of the European Blue Economy provided our entrepreneurs with a unique understanding of how their innovations can align with the latest marine priorities and bridge the gap between science, business, and policy.

🙌 We want to extend a huge thank you to everyone who made this exclusive event possible, especially the distinguished representatives from the European Marine Board (EMB).

💡 A special thank you goes out to our OC2 participants for their active engagement during the presentation and the following Q&A session. Your drive to connect entrepreneurial spirit with sustainable marine goals is what makes this programme so impactful.

📧 For those who want to stay informed on the future policy landscape of our marine sectors, we highly recommend visiting the EMB website and subscribing to their excellent newsletter: https://www.marineboard.eu/emb-newsletter

🚀 The ADT4Blue project has kicked off its Open Call 3 Programme!

📅 The journey began on 11 February with an informative onboarding session. ADT4Blue members Raquel Amaral and Cátia Sousa from F6S, along with Pedro Fonseca from IPG, welcomed more than 30 new participants and provided a comprehensive overview of the road ahead.

💡 The momentum continued the following day with a dynamic, day-long Orientation Workshop. Magnificently guided by Bernard Carlson of Gaia, the event featured vital contributions from John Breslin and Mafalda Santos of the University of Galway. Their insights into entrepreneurship equipped the new cohort with the essential concepts, tools, and skills required to build innovation-driven enterprises centred on digital technology.

🏛️ Participants also received a deep dive into the core pillars of the project. Tugçe Akyazi from the University of Deusto detailed the Training Programme, while Marta Vesga from Gaia presented the Mentorship Programme, ensuring everyone is prepared to make the most of these resources.

🌊 With Open Call 2 and Open Call 3 now running concurrently, the project supports a growing community of more than 60 participants. These innovators are hard at work developing digital solutions to address the most pressing challenges facing the Blue Economy across the Atlantic Area.

🔔 Stay tuned for more updates!
