New(ish) work for Ärligt talat-chatten / Föreningen Luckan

Done a lot of projects for Luckan over the years now and always enjoy them a lot. This task was to clean up the old design for Ärligt Talat(my own, I confess my sins), and make it more structured / accessible / pleasing on the eyes. And more technical improvements behind the scenes, SEO improvements, meta-tags / alt-texts, 3 more layout breakpoints, svg conversions for elements and much more.

In other than just subjective aesthetical preference, how do you actually measure good design? In web design or development one would be to look at hard visitor count. These stats are taken from Google analytics. To compare the 90 days so far to the 90 days before it, what has happened since the site went live:

• 112,6% more visitors overall
• 95,6% more unique visitors
• 9,4% more page views

That’s pretty good. This isn’t to say this is only because of the new design, but a sum of many things, and that being one big part of it. And one is absolutely the unwavering high-quality work of the Ärligt Talat-gang and all hard efforts that they do.

I apologize for the incoming wall of text. So what can be said about the man Axel Åhman that hasn't already been said, his contributions and work through the international sensation KAJ speaks for itself. Grammy-winners and Eurovision finalists just to name a few. He is also an well-respected author, screenwriter, public speaker, tv-series producer, and the wonderfully creative list goes on and on. I am getting a tiny burnout just thinking about it... But the man takes it in stride, and even revels in the beastly proportions of outlets. And that is lucky for us, to get to enjoy the produce.

The many projects of Axel Åhman has a name and that name is Jämna Plågor, which is basically a production company. Which means "even pains", maybe a more direct meaning would be "keep on truckin'", for example. As the weight in the creative field is often that there is always 'something' that needs solving but we keep on rolling forward. An even layer of constant struggles or pains.

I would need more text to explain the process here. But with all my clients I have an interview to try to get clues on what we are solving and what feelings we want to emit through the design. So the keywords I write down was: a constant struggle, creative field, modern, bold, not boring, donald duck, comic book, medieval / carriage / bomb / chain.. And so on. A bit more complex, but you get the idea. So the result is an Ostrobothnian take on the classic depiction of Atlas carrying the world with hand-drawn man pushing the "weight" of the 'creative thing' that might 'explode'.

The logo seemed to hit the exact spot we were looking for with Axel. Beyond happy with the results. If you have any questions about the process or anything I am glad to answer them, there is a reason for everything in my work.
