One scan. Two critical answers.
Assessing catalyst activity and particle size traditionally requires separate laboratory workflows, with results taking days or even weeks.

Repsol Technology Lab combined Specim FX17 hyperspectral imaging with proprietary algorithms and AI models to predict both properties from a single optical scan.

The results:
• 0.4% average prediction error for catalytic activity
• 2.4% maximum prediction error, comparable to conventional laboratory uncertainty
• ±3 μm prediction error for average particle size
The approach reduces reliance on time-consuming laboratory workflows and lays the groundwork for faster, data-driven decisions in refinery operations.

Automating textile recycling is not just about speed—it’s about making the right decisions at scale.

One challenge? Shoes rarely arrive as pairs. Instead, they come as individual items mixed with thousands of other garments. Matching them reliably becomes difficult, especially when visually similar shoes are made from different materials.

In this case study, AVICON R&D and VIVE Textile Recycling combine AI, 3D imaging, and hyperspectral technology to solve this problem.

By adding material identification to the process, the system:
• Improves pairing reliability beyond visual inspection
• Achieves consistent material classification across parallel lines (>99.5% repeatability)
• Operates at industrial scale—processing up to 9,000 shoes per hour

A good example of how spectral data can add a new layer of insight to machine vision applications.

Meet the new Specim SX10.

Research-grade VNIR precision for demanding research, laboratory, and advanced imaging applications.

Covering the 400–1000 nm spectral range, the new Specim SX10 combines 1560 spatial pixels and 680 spectral bands with excellent signal-to-noise performance and fine spectral resolution – enabling users to capture subtle spectral differences and fine spatial details with high precision.

With 275 fps, high-speed GigE connectivity, built-in Advanced Image Enhancement (AIE), and unified spectral calibration, the SX10 delivers reliable and repeatable hyperspectral data while providing the flexibility needed for easy integration into complete imaging systems.

The SX10 is ideal for applications including:
🔹 Thin-film characterization
🔹 Detailed imaging of geological samples
🔹 Food research
🔹 Vegetation studies
🔹 Cultural heritage and art conservation

And if you’re at VISION 2026, you can be among the first to see the SX10 in person.

You can’t recycle what you can’t sort.

For every 100 garments produced, fewer than one returns as new fiber. As textile collection increases, one of the key challenges is knowing what each garment is actually made of – accurately and fast enough for industrial sorting.

At VISION 2026, Specim CCO Sami Toljamo will take the stage to discuss how Specim RETEX combines hyperspectral imaging with AI to identify textile fibers and blends in real time.

The principle is simple: we don’t build the sorting machine – we make it see.

Developed through the collaboration between Specim and Konica Minolta, RETEX brings together hyperspectral imaging, AI, and industrial expertise to provide the material information needed for automated textile recognition and separation.
