From idea to impact in 24 hours: kood/Sisu teams build solutions to automate Novapolis work, unlock data, and drive smarter business decisions đź’ˇ

The Hackathon's focus was clear: reduce manual work, make better use of data, and build smarter solutions that create value in everyday operations. The outcome was a set of practical solutions ready to support sales, customer management, and property development.

The winning team stood out by integrating automation, data enrichment, AI and ecosystem collaboration into a single platform. Their solution helps Novapolis proactively onboard customers, identify signals, and guide the entire ecosystem more effectively.

A special mention and a further development opportunity went to the team that built a browser-based cost-calculation tool that allows sales teams to quickly calculate renovation and leasing costs for office spaces by selecting services, adjusting quantities, and including recurring expenses.

How to overcome imposter syndrome, and what is the value of community and mentorship? đź’ˇ

Our talent met our partner Zalando developers in a remote meeting dedicated to the women of kood/Sisu. The basic idea of this meet was to provide an open space and opportunity to discuss careers, tech, and more with someone who has already pursued a developer career path and is a career changer themselves

During the meeting, Zalando developers explained that the company offers a supportive and inclusive work environment with flexible work arrangements and a strong focus on work-life balance. They also highlighted a trust-based culture in which employees are evaluated on results and supported in their growth through feedback and development opportunities.

Topics that sparked a lot of discussion during the meeting included skill expectations, the current job market, and career transitions into tech. There was considerable focus on the importance of strong technical foundations and the ability to clearly explain one’s thinking in interviews, as well as on how competitive the job market has become. The conversation also highlighted, encouragingly, how people from diverse backgrounds can successfully transition into tech through curiosity, persistence, and continuous learning.

Thank you so much, Zalando, for making this event possible for our community! This kind of collaboration creates meaningful connections between tech talent and industry professionals, and Zalando actively builds a diverse, inclusive, and future-ready tech community for the future generations of software developers! đź’ś

kood/Sisu professionals Enni and Taleb designed and built the front-end and product catalogue for Evolved TCG’s online store to create a smooth, reliable experience for a huge catalogue of Pokémon trading cards—without compromising speed or usability.

“The collaboration worked very well, and the end result met expectations. Communication with the developers was clear, and a shared understanding of priorities was maintained throughout the project. The developers made sure the schedule didn’t slip — and it didn’t.”
— Janne Kaarnasaari | Evolved TCG

https://koodsisu.fi/2026/05/26/referenssi-evolved-tcg/

Enni and Taleb led the work end-to-end, taking ownership of both development and coordination in direct collaboration with the client. They implemented a WordPress & WooCommerce-based solution with over 10,000 products, focusing on a clear UI, a functional product catalog, and a fast, lightweight structure tailored to the store’s needs.

“The main priority was to keep the site fast and lightweight despite the large product range. This meant reducing unnecessary complexity and ensuring efficiency for the client.”
— Enni Reinikainen | kood/Sisu

“All changes were tested in real use cases and developed based on actual user experience, not just technical functionality. This was a continuation on top of an existing platform, so every solution had to be reliable and carefully implemented to ensure previous functionality wasn’t disrupted.”
— Taleb Hossaini | kood/Sisu

In the workshop hosted by startup entrepreneur & coach Tero Puustinen and Innovation Advisor at Business Center Pohjois-Savo (in the Itä-Suomen yliopisto - University of Eastern Finland (UEF)) Tomi Tuovinen, we explored a powerful question: what if coding wasn’t just a pathway to employment, but a way to build something of your own?

Tero’s session focused on the fundamentals of transforming an idea into a startup. He walked participants through:

- Building a startup mindset: understanding that entrepreneurship is not a one-time decision, but a long-term way of thinking and acting.
- Validating ideas and identifying real user needs.
- Finding product–market fit.
- Crafting effective pitches.
- Exploring funding options and practical first steps in starting a company.

A key takeaway was that startup success begins with overcoming personal barriers: When it comes down to being an entrepreneur, you can't prepare for everything, but you will definitely learn on the go. That's why taking the first step often matters more than polishing the first perfect concept.

Tomi Tuovinen brought a complementary perspective through his experience as an Innovation Advisor and part-time entrepreneur.

In his presentation, he highlighted:

- The wide range of startup support networks and public services available in Kuopio, North Savo, and across Finland.
- How individuals can leverage these ecosystems to develop ideas into businesses or side projects.
- The importance of combining skills, creativity, and personal interests into something tangible.

Drawing on his own journey balancing his role as an Innovation Advisor with music performances, Tomi demonstrated how entrepreneurship can evolve alongside other career paths and the practical ways to start your first startup.

The session also included a hands-on workshop, where participants identified real-world problems, shaped them into startup ideas, and practised turning them into early-stage prototypes and pitches. For kood/Sisu sessions like these reinforce a solution-oriented mindset, which is essential in both development work and entrepreneurship.

Thank you to everyone involved for an inspiring and practical session! đź’ś

What is it like to be a software developer at a leading European e-commerce fashion store?

During our visit to the Zalando Helsinki Tech Hub, we heard presentations from 3 developers. They opened up their professions and roles as developers, working at an e-commerce company, and much more. During the event, they gave short interviews about their typical workdays as developers. Check the interviews here: https://koodsisu.fi/fi/b2b/zalando/

We can now also happily announce that one of our talents has secured a position at Zalando as a Data Engineering Intern. A position among over 1200 applicants is an impressive achievement in itself, so huge congratulations from the whole kood/Sisu community! đź’ś Also, it's worth mentioning that a total of 5 people from Sisu were interviewed! đź’Ş

Can a website do more than just look good? Yes, it can actively support sales.

For Rakennuspalvelu Nikki, that meant adding a dynamic pricing calculator that gives visitors a realistic price estimate and guides them smoothly toward contacting the company.

The project was delivered by kood/Sisu talent working directly with the client across the full two-week timeline. Together, they defined the structure early on, reviewed progress in agreed-upon meetings, and fine-tuned details to ensure the final version matched real business needs.

The calculator build was based on Gravity Forms, making it easy to embed on any page and simple to modify later. The form progresses step by step, adapts to the user’s selections, and visually follows the client’s brand. No external services, no unnecessary complexity — just a clear, functional tool that fits seamlessly into the site.

“kood/Sisu kept us well informed and gave us the opportunity to influence the product even during development. Building this ourselves would have taken around three weeks and would have ended up more expensive. The price–quality ratio is very competitive, and the proposal was concrete from the start.”

Right now, our partner, is hosting a remote workshop for kood/Sisu talents on Building AI Agents.

AI agents are everywhere and now part of our daily lives, whether in your work environment or in the services you use, such as apps or websites. For that reason, it's super valuable for developers to see under the hood and understand the AI agent's capabilities, limitations, possibilities, and ways to use it better. 🤖

Thank you so much, Siili Solutions, for hosting the workshop!

and kood/Sisu just concluded their second Hackathon project ✔️

Hackathons are an innovative way to quickly and efficiently develop concepts that meet companies' needs, providing out-of-the-box solutions and ideas and improving workflows. Sisu talents developed multiple concepts for an automated email monitoring system that tracks and aggregates email sources and alerts on critical issues in a timely and reliable manner. At the end of the event, the teams pitched their solutions to a 4-person jury from Istekki.

The winning solution met the given challenge, considered production deployment and modern technology choices, such as AI, and the technical documentation was excellent.

Thanks to all the teams for participating, and to Istekki for providing our talents with another great challenge. đź’ś
