The physiological benefits of running 🏃‍♂️

On Global Running Day, we highlight how regular aerobic activity like running is one of the most effective ways to strengthen the cardiovascular system and improve autonomic regulation. By consistently engaging in running, you promote a more dominant parasympathetic tone, which is reflected in an increased heart rate variability (HRV).

Lace up your shoes today and take a step toward better physiological resilience and long-term heart health.

Kubios HRV Team Readiness 5.2.0 is now available ✨

We are excited to announce a major update to Kubios HRV Team Readiness. This release introduces a powerful new HRV analysis module for sport and exercise data, providing sports scientists and coaches with deeper physiological insights into athlete performance.

Key features in version 5.2.0:

➡️ Expanded team management
You can now enable your team members to perform custom HRV measurements using the Kubios HRV App.

➡️ Kubios data browser
You can easily manage the measurements your team members have recorded with the Kubios HRV App. Open measurements directly in the HRV Analysis module or export the raw RR interval data for further analysis.

➡️ Training analysis
A dedicated HRV module for analyzing heart rate and HRV data from exercise sessions, featuring insights into cardiorespiratory function, training effect, metabolic profile including ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2), and heart rate recovery.

➡️ Route explorer
Use GPS data to highlight and analyze performance metrics for specific segments of a training route.

This update also includes enhanced readiness reporting with deeper long-term trends, alongside various performance improvements and bug fixes.

Update your software now to access these new features.

The relationship between HRV and mental health is bidirectional. Because our mental state and autonomic nervous system (ANS) function are inextricably linked, actively fostering a balanced ANS through evidence-based lifestyle habits—such as quality sleep, consistent exercise, and mindfulness—can significantly improve HRV and, consequently, support your mental well-being.

Want to monitor how these changes affect your physiology? The Kubios HRV mobile app allows you to track your daily readiness and ANS response, giving you objective insights as you work toward better well-being.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re exploring the scientific link between mental state and autonomic physiology. 🧠💓

Mental health is central to our overall well-being, but understanding the physiology behind our emotional and psychological state is crucial. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) serves as a powerful tool to assess Autonomic Nervous System (ANS) function, providing objective insights into our body’s stress and recovery patterns.

This relationship is rooted in the dynamic interplay between the sympathetic (“fight-or-flight”) and parasympathetic (“rest-and-digest”) branches of the ANS. While higher HRV signifies a balanced system and resilience to stressors, chronic stress and mental distress often cause an imbalance, resulting in reduced HRV.

For the scientific community, HRV serves as a vital marker for the bidirectional relationship between our mental state and physical health.
