January, in many parts of the world its the time to slow down and let the winter whisk you away. In South-America its summer and festival time. There are a lot of ancient, aswell as more commercial festivals.

One that sounds like an amazing tradition to honor life and earth is the Fiesta de la Santa Tierra (Festival of the Sacred Land)which is an ancient, culturally significant event held annually on Amantaní Island in Lake Titicaca, Peru. The main event occurs on the third Thursday of January.

Fiesta de la Santa Tierra is a vital expression of the living Inca and pre-Inca culture, where locals express gratitude to the Earth and seek a bountiful harvest for the year ahead 🙏

The most notable aspect of this festival is the rare opening of the ancient Mother Earth (Pachamama) and Father Earth (Pachatata) temples located on the island's two high peaks. These temples are closed to the public for the rest of the year.

During the festival the population split in two -- half at the Temple of Pachamama and the other half at the Temple of Pachatata (on Amantani's other peak), symbolizing the islanders' ancient dualistic belief system. A representative of each group will race to a point between the two. According to tradition, a victory for Pacha Mama means a bountiful harvest for the coming season.

Nordic Wristbands Adds To Sustainability Initiatives by achieving 44% emissions reduction through recycled materials in 2024, introducing Recycled Ocean Plastic wristbands in 2025.

Nordic Wristbands, a pioneer in event identification and smart access technology, has achieved a significant CO2E reduction through sustainable manufacturing policies. By switching to recycled polyesters and organic materials to produce fabric wristbands and integrated NFC tech elements, the company has announced that it reduced production emissions from 302 tons to 168 tons of CO₂e—a 44% decrease compared to the previous year.

This substantial emissions reduction highlights the powerful impact that material choices can have, even in small, everyday products.

The environmental benefit is equivalent to:

• Saving approximately 4,041 trees
• Recycling 8,746 full bags or 69 tonnes of mixed waste
• Replacing 7,658 light bulbs with energy-efficient LEDs
• Preventing the burning of 1.1 railcars of coal
• Cycling 518,013 miles instead of driving gas-powered cars
• Removing 44.8 gas-powered vehicles from roads for one year
• Powering 39.3 homes with 100% renewable electricity for one year

In addition to its emissions-reduction efforts, Nordic Wristbands offsets its annual production-related emissions via certified carbon offset initiatives. Nordic is entering its fourth year partnering with Stand for Trees to balance unavoidable associated impacts, reinforcing its commitment to long-term climate action.
