Plot twist: 40% of the workloads didn’t need migrating.

They needed deleting 🗑️.

A global engineering company needed to exit its legacy data centre as VMware licensing costs climbed and infrastructure costs became increasingly difficult to track.

The obvious answer?

Move everything to AWS.

Except… moving everything would mean taking years of accumulated infrastructure – including the stuff nobody actually needed - along for the ride.

So we didn’t.

Together with the customer, Nordcloud assessed what should stay, what should go and what was actually worth moving.

The result:

➡️ ~40% of workloads decommissioned instead of migrated
➡️ Significantly lower cloud costs than initially estimated
