Motorola released the world’s first mobile phone, the DynaTAC 8000x, in 1983.

This portable phone cost $3,995 upon release and offered 30 minutes of talk time.

Charging the device required 10 hours, and it could only store 30 phone numbers in memory.

Unsurprisingly, few people purchased the device, but it marked a major breakthrough in mobile technology.

Nowadays, cell phones and smartphones (now matter how cheap or expensive they are) are an indispensable gadget in peoples’ lives.

A number of tech firms are now developing robots that can cook and plate up entire meals, both for commercial and domestic kitchens. One of those at the forefront is London-based Moley Robotics, which is due to release its product, the Moley Robotic Kitchen.

A game-changing step into the future of cooking at home, Moley brings the world’s first fully robotic kitchen.

The Moley Robotic Kitchen allows us to save time, free up your day from routine cooking, plan and adapt your menu according to different diets and lifestyles, enjoy international cuisine anytime, control calories and get cooking tips and recipes from chefs around the world.

Not only does the robot cook complete meals, it tells when ingredients need replacing, suggests dishes based on the items you have in stock, learns what you like and even cleans up surfaces after itself.

A US scientist has devised a special bracelet that reads the electrical impulses of neurons traveling along the muscles of the arms or legs. He tests them by sitting in front of a screen equipped with a bracelet, moving his mind around the objects his computer displays.

The neuroscientist has envisioned that the bracelet will assist in the rehabilitation of patients recovering from stroke or amputation, as well as those suffering from Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other severe neurodegenerative diseases.

The bracelet is connected to a computer and reads electrical impulses of motor neurons. It transmits these impulses to the computer as a movement. This means that the owner of the bracelet can only think of moving objects around the screen as if it were a mouse.

QWERTY was designed to slow you down
There are actually two theories to this. The first one starts to make sense when you look at manual typewriters. If someone typed too fast, the keys would jam. QWERTY placed common alphabets at a distance from each other and slowed typists down.

Another theory is that telegraph operators designed the QWERTY layout because it was easier (and faster) to decipher Morse code.

Either way, there was no reason to keep using the layout, but it stuck and there was resistance to change. You can actually change your keyboard layout to the faster Dvorak layout in the language settings (or just buy a new Dvorak keyboard).

This pair of earphones not only features translation functionality. It also works as a regular earphone which you can use for music, calls, and to operate Google Assistant.

However, where it truly shines is in its real-time translation.

You can either ask Google Assistant to help you translate a language then it will pull up Google Translate on your phone. Or you can launch the app by yourself.

You set the two languages, touch hold either earbud as you speak in your language, and release when you’re done. Your phone will read the translation aloud. The person you’re speaking to can also respond in his/her language and speak into your phone’s microphone. The translation will then be played back to you in your earbuds.

It's always fun to look back at the earliest design patents submitted by Apple through the years.Like these sketches of the original 1985 Apple iPhone. Initially designed as a flip device, the iPhone from the 80's also included a literal apple shape and push keypad. Pretty amazing. The first iPhone was a small object, shaped like a block of bar soap and with a weight of 135 grams. Besides the glass screen, the phone's chassis was mostly made in aluminum and “embraced” the display to protect it from accidental side impacts.

Nobody really knew what the internet was capable of back then and this was a huge opportunity for people to own all kinds of do domain names. It was in 1995 that a company called Network Solutions was granted the rights to charge people for domain names. And it was expensive too: prices typically started at $100 per two years of registration.

As much as 30 per cent of this was a fee that went to the National Science Foundation to create an 'Internet Intellectual Infrastructure Fund'. This fee was later reversed in 1997, bringing the charge down to $70 for two years.

Did you know that Google comes from, and its origin story comes from a spelling error.

The name Google was created accidentally, it was originally supposed to be named ‘Googol’.
A “googol”, in mathematics, is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. Page originally wanted to call the search engine googol.

By the time the company formed, they switched the name to Google. Perhaps the name is easier to spell and looks more friendly on the screen.

People perform billions of search queries each day through Google. It’s such a popular name that it became a verb years ago among users.

In fact, most people refer to running an internet search as “Googling” something.

Google’s Name Comes From A Spelling Error. The founders checked to see if that domain name was taken, but accidentally searched for ‘google.com’ instead of ‘googol.com’. They liked that name even better and registered the domain name on September 15, 1997.

Sergey Brin and Larry Page founded Google in 1998. 70% of search queries worldwide run through Google’s search engine.

Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989. The basic idea of the WWW was to merge the evolving technologies of computers, data networks and hypertext into a powerful and easy to use global information system.

It has only been 20 years since the creation of the first website.

The internet has actually been around since the 60s however it was very simple and website then were not invented, it was mainly used by professionals, doctors, the military, professors etc to transfer data from one computer to another, many normal peoples did not have any internet access.

In 1991, Tim Berness-Lee launched the first ever website. It was very simple unfortunately only people from the European organization of nuclear research could view it. The rest of the world was still pretty much unaware of the internet and websites until the launch of web browsers in 1993.

The first website was created by hypertext coding language, therefore could only be created by those who knew html. The first generation website had linear layouts, heavy text and no graphics.

By 1994, web designers began to add tools to html codes. html 2 allowed for slightly faster internet, more graphics and colors. However, coding remained very complicated.

1995 marked the beginning of internet explorer and flash! Website designers could then experiment with more complex concepts such as animation. HTML 4 allowed for more graphics, design, colors and patterns.

In 1996, a poplar website angel fire allowed for paying customers to create their own websites and eventually for free.

The blogging trend of 2000 ushered in a new era for websites, blogging or blog is another way to say a webpage. The term blog refers to a collection of blog entries, which are truly just webpages. The blogging tools like Movable Type, Blogger, and Wordpress offered a mechanism for organization owners to make their websites more dynamic. In most cases the tools were freely available, those tools utilized php code and database functionality underneath a website to dynamically serve content. The owners weren’t exposed to the complexity of underlying system, which in turn freed them up to focus on their website content. A key feature of those tools was the ability to add a page on the fly, with the tools handling the previous complexity of creating an html page.

Throughout the rest of the 20s century so far, we have seen the emerge of social networking, educational websites, gaming websites, illegal websites and things like YouTube which allows people to create their own kind of mini video website. Today the internet is full of DIY websites, places were ordinary people place their living online. Some even make their living from websites, for example eBay and amazon are huge international sellers, which all started with a website. Some bloggers get paid to blog if adverts are shown in their videos or on their pages, websites have evolved very quickly and will continue to do so.
