📐🌍 International Day of Mathematics – March 14

Mathematics is everywhere around us — from the patterns in nature to the solutions we design for a more sustainable planet.

Today we celebrate the International Day of Mathematics and highlight how the ECOTEACH Erasmus+ project helps students explore mathematics through environmental discovery and hands-on STEM learning.

Through outdoor experiments, real-life data collection and interdisciplinary activities, ECOTEACH encourages students to:

Yesterday we celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGIS) under the powerful theme:
“Synergizing AI, Social Science, STEM and Finance: Building Inclusive Futures for Women and Girls.”

Women still represent less than one third of the world’s researchers, according to UNESCO. Closing this gap is not only a matter of equality, it is essential for better science, stronger innovation, and more inclusive societies.

🌱 Through Environment-Based Learning, we:
✅Encourage girls to engage confidently in science and mathematics
✅Promote hands-on STEM learning connected to real-world sustainability challenges

🌍📲 Digital innovation meets sustainability

At ECOTEACH, we believe that digital tools can transform the way STEM subjects are taught, especially when learning starts from the environment.

Led by DISRUPTIA, the project is developing the ECOTEACH Virtual Classroom, an online space where teachers will find training, resources and digital tools to bring Environment-Based Learning (EBL) into their classrooms.
From mobile technologies and open data to hands-on digital activities, ECOTEACH helps teachers connect science, maths and sustainability in practical and engaging ways.

🌱📚 A first look at the ECOTEACH Virtual Classroom

What happens when science, maths, environmental education and digital innovation come together?

The answer is taking shape inside the ECOTEACH Virtual Classroom, the online learning space that will soon support teachers across Europe in applying Environment-Based Learning (EBL) in real classrooms.

Following our 2nd Transnational Project Meeting in Dublin, the ECOTEACH partnership has successfully completed WP2, defining the Learning Units and the competence-based curriculum that will guide the project.

Now, the next step begins: transforming that curriculum into concrete training content that teachers can access, explore and apply.

💻 Led by Disruptia (Spain), the Virtual Classroom will be:
✔️ Open-access and multilingual
✔️ Designed specifically for teachers and educators
✔️ Built around practical resources, hands-on exercises and real environmental challenges
✔️ A space where STEM education meets sustainability, inclusion and innovation

Inside the platform, teachers will find:
🔹 A structured online training course
🔹 A rich electronic database of resources
🔹 Hands-on exercises ready to use in the classroom
🔹 Evaluation tools and pedagogical guidance

This is just a preview, the foundations are being laid, and the content development phase is about to start.
