Morning all, welcome to phase-1 of the 3.14 Astronomy Complex

Our flights are booked for the 8th of November, we are going to combine an astronomy vacation, a tour of the south west with some site meetings with our contractor Bo. By the time I arrive I am hoping the first stage footings for building 1 & 2 will already be well underway and we can nail down the minutiae and other site development plans.

We are so excited, from Dirt to diggers then concrete & steel, its been so slow up until this stage but things are starting to move fast now :)

The Image is a mix of a real drone image that was taken a month or so ago, mixed with the phase 1 complex super imposed in place, AI can be such an awesome tool at times, allowing us to do funky stuff like this relatively easily :)

Footings footing & yet more footings, so begins the next phase of the great Pie Town observatory adventure!

We have over a 1000ft of 24"deep footings to start digging next week, as an astronomy company, I never considered my next major purchase would be a Bobcat E55 5ton digger over a 24" Ritchey Creiten Telescope :(

Secretly however, I am looking forward to having a play with it :)

🌌 An update on Roboscopes’ new 3.14 Astronomy Complex

We wanted skies that still look like the ones that got us into this.

Not a packed shed with thousands of scopes. Not a site that might be bright in five years. Somewhere the Milky Way still owns the night.

That search ended in Pie Town, New Mexico.

If you saw our last update, you’ll know site work is already underway. This one is simpler:

Things are moving forward at 3.14 Astronomy Complex in Pie Town, New Mexico.

Construction is expected to begin later this month, alongside the arrival of Armstrong, our first observatory. This is a significant milestone we’ve been looking forward to sharing.

We remain on track for our first telescope installations in January 2027, with accommodation planned to follow from late 2027.

We are creating 76 purpose-designed observatory spaces on 14 high-altitude acres in Pie Town, New Mexico.

After more than a decade of operating remote observatories, we’re bringing everything we’ve learned together to create an astro farm unlike anything else in the mainland US.

Why Pie Town?

• True Bortle 1 skies
• Around 300 clear nights each year
• Typical seeing of 1 arcsecond or better
• Low humidity

Work is already underway. Access roads are being built, and the first observatory plot is being leveled ahead of construction and supporting infrastructure.

Planned observatory spaces and swing diameters:

• Small — 9 × 36 inches
• Medium — 20 × 48 inches
• Standard — 43 × 60 inches
• Large — 4 × 84 inches

This is a very well written article about one man's journey into remote imaging, albeit a little sad in places

On the last trip in April, we helped a new hosted customer Willem install his very nice 14" Planewave inside our Spanish observatory, below are his thoughts on the experience so far....

Two years ago I installed my rig for the first time at a remote hosting site. Now the site closed and I had to move. I found a great spot at Roboscopes but still had to move the rig. Read here the story about the move from one remote hosting site to another.
