AI is changing the way we think about software quality, and one of the biggest questions for QA teams is where traditional quality assurance ends and AI quality engineering begins.

Testing an AI-powered product isn’t quite the same as testing traditional software. The same input can produce different outputs, an AI agent can complete a task using the wrong tool, or a RAG system can generate a convincing answer based on the wrong source. Suddenly, having a single “expected result” isn’t always enough to determine whether something actually works.

But this is where experienced QA engineers may already have an advantage.

Good QA has always been about questioning assumptions rather than simply asking, “Does it work?” What happens when the input changes? Where does the system break? Can the failure be reproduced? What happens when a dependency changes? And do we have enough evidence to confidently release it?

As AI becomes part of more products, these same principles are being applied to areas such as:
