Operating at the workspace level gives Claude visibility across all your projects at once. It lets you run full-stack workflows like building API contracts across frontend and backend simultaneously, while maintaining a clean hierarchy for project rules and a central home for shared scripts, skills, and uncommitted docs.

Single repos and monorepos should still be initialized at the repo level, but the workspace pattern is far more effective as soon as your services start communicating.
