Producer and mix engineer Robert Adam Stevenson has worked with Queens of the Stone Age, Jeff Beck, Johnny Depp, and Taylor Hawkins, among many others.

On Detroit Drums:

Robert is a Grammy nominated Los Angeles based British producer, recording engineer and mixer.

Detroit Drums is a new set of 2 virtual acoustic drum instruments based on the drums, cymbals, heads and tuning, as well as the mixing environment of 1960’s R&B/Pop. The drums and cymbals feature individual tuning, and a never-before-seen dampening control for each drum. Additionally, the 1960’s-era virtual mixing console includes specially-tuned tube distortion for each channel, built-in plate reverb send effect, and a mix bus effects chain with a 660-style compressor, high- and low-shelf EQ, and tape effect, to recreate the sounds of 60’s R&B/Pop records.

Iconic Instruments GF240, a faithful emulation of 5 units of the famous 240 gold foil plate reverb.

GF240 includes classic functionality, like a pre-delay control, send width, a filter section with high- and low-pass filters, as well as a shapable node, tail length control from a full 6 seconds down to a mere 20ms (much shorter than an analog unit) and a mix control with a convenient solo switch to preview only the reverberation.

The GF240 also sports some new twists to the original, like a 5-position density control that ranges from full-bodied plate sounds to a light, transparent wash without reducing the fullness of the reverb. Additionally, the drive feature gives you a classic 70’s-style distortion that you can apply pre- or post-reverb, and the high- and low-pass drive set screws allow you to place the distortion exactly where you want in the frequency spectrum. And finally, choose from a list of twenty carefully crafted presets that range from classic references to modern, or even abstract examples.

At the recent LIPA graduation in Liverpool, UK, graduate Sam Durkin was chosen as the winner of Iconic Instruments plugins.

LIPA, founded by Sir Paul McCartney, the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) is world renowned as a leading provider of university level creative and performing arts training with a portfolio of ambitious and popular courses.

Mike Wise is a highly acclaimed Canadian music producer and songwriter based in Toronto. He is best known for his pop, alternative, and R&B work, most notably co-producing massive hits for Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, and Britney Spears.

Mike has been using the Iconic Instruments Transport Vintage Tape in his productions, saying “Just threw the Transport Vintage Tape Machine on the master of a song I’m working on and it’s staying there.”

Transport Vintage Tape is a new analog tape plugin with the flexibility to dial in classic, gluey tape sounds, or over-the-top tape destruction. Transport Vintage Tape also adds several classic, but flexible controls with modern production in mind.

Steve Levine, the UK based Brit Award winning producer, has been using Iconic Instruments plugins in this studio. His latest release with artist he used Transport Vintage Tape, Model 660 X Exciting Compressor, and ParametrEQ on these tracks.
Levine has worked with artists such as The Clash, Beach Boys, Gary Moore, and Culture Club.

Transport Vintage Tape is an accurate software recreation of vintage tape color and compression in plugin form that adds classic, but flexible controls with modern production in mind. This plugin ranges from subtle to over-the-top and has many extra parameters to give you full control over the result.

The Record level goes from subtle and gluey to searing or crushing, and the separate High- and Low-Drive gives you the power to focus the effect where you want. The High Frequency Bypass also allows you to completely exclude the effect above the cutoff to mimic the warmth of your favorite classic tracks.

The Head Bump feature adds a low frequency bump, characteristic of analog tape that was dependent on tape speed and tape stock. But the Head Bump control in the Transport Vintage Tape lets you choose the exact frequency from 50Hz to 250Hz, and gives you up to 12dB of gain, so you can add the color that suits your track.

The High Frequency Response control is a high frequency shelf, post-effect, that gives you the ability to restore or lessen highs to balance out your tracks. You can set the cutoff from 4kHz to 10kHz and the level can be set from -/+12dB.

There’s a Mix control for parallel processing, which gives you a range of interesting results - you can dial in an over-the-top setting and back it off with the Mix control, which gives you something different than just dialing back the effect.
