🎉 Big news for the WordPress community — WordPress 7.1 "Mary Lou" is officially here!

Released on August 19, 2026, this version is named after the legendary jazz pianist and composer Mary Lou Williams. And just like her music, this release is all about creativity, collaboration, and flow. 🎹✨

Here's what's new in a nutshell:

💬 Notes got a HUGE upgrade!
You can now use bold, italic, and emoji in notes, tag teammates with , and even leave a note on a specific piece of text — not just an entire block. Team collaboration just got so much easier!

📱 Responsive Design Without Coding
You can now control how your site looks on different screen sizes right from the editor — no CSS required. 🙌

📸 Better Media Support
iPhone photos (HEIC format), AVIF, and WebP are now natively supported. Plus a brand new image editing tool and infinite scrolling in the Media Library!

🔑 Easier Admin Navigation
The admin toolbar now stays with you everywhere in the editor, the Command Palette is smarter, and there's a fun new "On This Day" widget on your dashboard.
