Some of the best ideas children have may sound impossible at first.

“Why can’t we make cars that fly everywhere?”

To an adult, it may sound unrealistic. To a child, it may be the beginning of an idea worth exploring.

Instead of shutting down unusual questions, give your child room to explain what they mean. Ask them how they imagine it working, what problem it could solve, or what they would change.

You don't have to agree with the idea.
You don't even have to have the answer.

Sometimes, the most valuable part is allowing a child to think out loud without being afraid of getting it wrong.

Don't rush to correct the idea. Give the thinker a chance to explain it.

What does your child do when nobody tells them what to do?

Not every valuable learning moment comes with instructions.

Sometimes, the most revealing moments happen when a child is given the freedom to decide what comes next.

Do they immediately look for someone to guide them?
Do they create their own activity?
Do they experiment with something around them?
Or do they simply wait for someone else to decide?

Children need opportunities where there isn't a ready-made instruction sheet. These moments can reveal how they approach unfamiliar situations and give them room to practise initiative.

Because sometimes, no instructions is an opportunity to practise initiative.
