Tuuliki Tõiste, TalTech – Tallinn University of Technology library Development Manager: "Our library’s concept is „brain tree“, the building sits in the front corner of the university campus and looks like a wooden block. Printed wood perennials have also been visualised as space sky with planets and stars by outside viewers. For us as a library, the facade textile mainly enables to protect our books on open shelves from direct sunlight. It is also a great windcatcher – it feels with windy weathers that we have a „dress“ on."

The latest Estonian Architecture Magazine MAJA discusses how can built heritage help with modern challenges. As Kaja Pae, editor-in-chief says, „An environment that preserves architecture and other elements from several eras is cosier for humans than an environment built within a single time period.“

P**k street was the main business street in Rakvere in the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century with shops, restaurants, guest houses and a bank. In 2020 700m of P**k street was restored, as a result, the street turned into modern pedestrian-friendly promenade and once again a representative street of the city.

In co-operation with planners and architects of the reconstructed area, Rakvere city government ordered a facade mesh, which depicts the street as it was in 1865, to cover a prominent side wall of the building next to the new recreational square. Symbiosis of the old and new had been established.

It is amazing what you can do with a simple fabric if you add some architectural dimension and print on it.
