Thinking of upgrading to Magento 2.4.8 + PHP 8.4?
Great move — faster, safer, future-proof.
But… it’s not always smooth sailing.

From recent experience, here are the Top 3 pitfalls you should watch out for:

1️. Deprecated code – older PHP patterns (= null) can throw errors.
2️. Empty style variables – leaving design values blank can break the frontend build.
3️. Third-party extensions – some modules may not yet be compatible.

Pro tip: Always test in staging before pushing live. It will save you headaches (and downtime).

On Aug 12, 2025, Adobe released:
Magento Open Source 2.4.9-alpha2 — new features + tech upgrades:
- OpenSearch 3.x
- Nginx 1.28
- Valkey 8.x
- HugeRTE editor (replaces TinyMCE)
- USPS REST API migration ahead of Jan 2026

Security Patch APSB25-71 — critical fixes for all supported versions (2.4.4-p14 → 2.4.9-alpha1).
Covers DoS, CSRF privilege escalation, arbitrary file read, stored XSS, and more.

Action now:
- Patch your current store — stable versions are available with these fixes.
- If testing alpha, start verifying USPS, Valkey, and editor changes.

BigCommerce has rebranded to Commerce.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMRC).
The new parent brand unites BigCommerce, Feedonomics and Makeswift to prepare merchants for “agentic commerce,” where AI agents research, recommend and even purchase on behalf of shoppers.
Fun fact: the company reportedly paid ≈ $2.4 million to secure the 1994-vintage domain Commerce.com, joining the small club of seven-figure single-word .com sales.
What does Commerce hope to deliver? AI-ready product data, flexible storefront experiences and an open ecosystem built for speed, intelligence and scale.
