When a company develops a blockchain solution to fill its business needs, a decision must be made as to what type of blockchain is best suited for the project.

Depending on the use and requirements, blockchains can be categorized into 4 types: public, private, consortium, and hybrid. Each one of these platforms has its pros, drawbacks, and best uses. Ready to learn more? Let’s go.

A public blockchain is an open-source, decentralized platform that allows anyone with an internet connection to join the blockchain network, create new blocks of data, and validate them.
Example: Bitcoin, Ethereum.

Pros:
✅ Complete trustable and transparent
✅ No intermediaries
✅ Secured

Cons:
⛔ Scalability issues
⛔ Lack of transaction speed
⛔ Consumes a lot of energy

USE CASES: Public blockchains are commonly used for mining and exchanging cryptocurrencies.

A private blockchain, or managed blockchain, is a permissioned, centralized platform that is usually controlled by a single organization. In a private blockchain, the central authority defines some restrictions and permissions for joining the network.
Example: Hyperledger, Corda.

Pro:
✅ Higher transaction per second (TPS)
✅ Highly scalable

Cons:
⛔ Less secured compared to Public blockchains
⛔ Less decentralized
⛔ Achieving trust is difficult

USE CASES: This type of blockchain structure is commonly used for voting, supply chain management, digital identity, asset ownership, etc. within an enterprise or organization.

A consortium blockchain (federated blockchain) is run by a group of organizations rather than one entity. The main purpose of this blockchain structure is to eliminate the risks associated with one entity controlling the network.
Example: Quorum, Hyperledger, Corda.

Pros:
✅ Best for organizational collaboration
✅ Scalable and much more secure
✅ Customizable

Cons:
⛔ Less transparent
⛔ Less anonymous

USE CASES: It has high potential for businesses, banks, and other payment processors.

A hybrid blockchain is a combination of both public and private blockchains. It allows organizations to choose which data they want to make public and which they want to keep private.
Example: IBM Food Trust, Ripple Network.

Pros:
✅ Highly customizable
✅ Secure
✅ Cheaper transactions

Cons:
⛔ Less transparent
⛔ Not very efficient for some organizations

USE CASES: It provides a greater solution to the healthcare industry, government, real estate, and financial companies.

We hope you enjoyed our explanation of the various types of blockchains. However, if you are still not sure which blockchain will serve your purpose better, feel free to drop us a line at [email protected] or fill out the form at https://lnkd.in/dsBBuWMs to get a FREE consultation.

When it comes to blockchain technology, the vast majority of posts focus on its benefits. And, to be brief and concise, here are the main ones:

✅ Enhanced security as a result of decentralization.
✅ Immutability, i. e. inability to change or delete recorded transactions.
✅ Greater transparency—all transactions are visible to anyone with access to the blockchain.
✅ Reduced costs associated with third-party vendors.

While blockchain technology has numerous advantages, it also has some DISADVANTAGES. So, if you're unsure whether blockchain is right for your company, send us an email at [email protected] or fill out the form at https://lnkd.in/dsBBuWMs to get a FREE consultation.

Meanwhile, let's take a look at some of the disadvantages of blockchain technology:

❗Scalability. Blockchains have limited scalability, which means that as more people join the network, the chances of it slowing down increase. However, there are several solutions to this problem, such as the use of blockchain solutions with various architectural designs, permissioned networks, and so on.

❗Storage. As the volume of transactions increases, so does the size of the database, which means that the space required inside the miners' computers must increase as well, eventually exceeding the capacity of the hard disks. To put this in context, the Ethereum blockchain is growing at a rate of 60 GB per year.

❗Data immutability. Yes, the most significant advantage of blockchain technology can also be its greatest disadvantage. Once data is recorded, it is impossible to change it, and rewriting the codes in all of the blocks is time-consuming and expensive.

❗High implementation costs. Blockchain is more expensive than a traditional database. Additionally, proper planning and ex*****on are required for businesses to integrate blockchain into their processes. At Aiolane, we develop blockchain and integrate it with your business infrastructure on time and within your budget. Contact us for a free consultation if you're considering blockchain for your business.

❗Security. Blockchain outperforms other platforms in terms of security. This does not, however, imply that it is completely secure. A blockchain network can still be compromised in some ways. 51% attack, double-spending, DDoS attack, and cryptographic cracking are among them.

Okay, so what do you think of blockchain? Is it 👍or 👎?

Our opinion: Even though blockchain technology has some drawbacks (just like any other technology), the majority of them can be overcome with proper development and implementation.

Some still believe that is only about the world and its dimensions. In reality, blockchain has many more potential use cases than just serving as the fuel behind Bitcoin. Below, we’ve outlined five major sectors where blockchain technology could be successfully applied.

👉 Banking & Fintech
In these days when money-related fraud is on the rise, blockchain-based payment services aimed at reducing the number of intermediaries are key to bringing additional security and convenience to customers.

👉 Cybersecurity
Cyberattacks are the top threat to our digital world, and blockchain can greatly improve the security of software by enabling software dependency controls that are automatic, tamper-proof, and decentralized.

👉 Insurance
Arguably the greatest blockchain application for insurance is through smart contracts. All claims when recorded on the blockchain are validated, which eliminates invalid ones or multiple claims for the same accident.

👉 Healthcare
Today, myriad problems exist in the storage of people’s health data. And that's where blockchain prevents data breaches, enables rapid access to data, and controls counterfeit medication issues.

👉 Supply chain
The collective supply chain is very difficult to track and trace from end to end with so many different players involved. However, blockchain can ensure critical goods are delivered safely within key parameters.

It’s crystal clear that our future lies with . Then why not secure the future in the industry of your choice by enhancing your business with blockchain NOW?

P.S. Just don’t forget that Aiolane could be your tower of strength on your way to becoming blockchain-friendly! ✌️😎
