Sanity Maintenance Man
Can you remember; when you first discovered that things aren't exactly the way they should be? I can't. I can remember having the realization that there was a neurotic element to the bourgeois society that I was brought up in, maybe when I was about 14 or 15.
Watching children, their innocence, their incessant desire to play, and their general acceptance of everything. Of course if they don't get their desires met, they might throw a fit, they are so used to receiving without any reciprocation.
And children love to skip, but at some point stop, without any conscious decision. I can't remember when that happened, but usually by 11 or 12. And it seems that most children take a while before they develop feelings of empathy for others., and at some point, they discovers that all is corrupt,
Imagine all the children that live where bombs are being dropped on them. How harshly and prematurely these discoveries may occur, and how they may experience grave losses. Whether they become increasingly sensitized or numb would be interesting to know. Imagine all that occurs in our lives that tend to make us numb without our awareness. Most often we all become numb to the daily atrocities that take place in our world, especially if they are far away, to the unethical practices that have become the norm, and to the injustices that abound. It is mind boggling how zombified we can become without our knowing it.
Now, with the pandemic (is it really a pandemic?) with the rising body counts which we are told are due to covid 19, justifying the need for everyone having to be locked down again and vaccinated, whether we want it or not. After all, if our passports must have proof of vaccination, that pretty much makes it mandatory. And the failure of the public to recognize that if for whatever reason, our health security, we must allow the gov't. to inject something into our sovereign bodies, that this is medical tyranny on the highest level.
That we can no longer recognize tyranny when it is being imposed upon us, coincides with the idea that we believe that we are free even though we are chained to a job for around 50 years of our lives, just to be able to survive or thrive, even though it takes up the best part of at least 5 out of every 7 days. Or the belief that we live in a democracy even when every presidential election we are forced to choose between the best of two evils, rather than have the opportunity to vote for someone we really would want to support and who we could trust. It becomes clear how incredibly deluded we have become.
And to add to it, how we are blithelysailing along, caught in a strong current, as we are approaching a frighteningly louder and louder waterfall, aptly named devil's staircase, the climate crises. All we can do it seems, is to fight off panic, through constant distraction.
We are all experiencing a great drought of real strategies and a storm of empty rhetoric. If one actually has a viable strategy, it will go almost completely ignored and buried as the degree of skepticism towards any possible remedies has reached monstrous proportions, due to the pathetic quality of most of the remedies offered.
This is when people advocate prayer, await for help from aliens, resort to alcohol, and drugs, and cling to whatever pieces of hope they can find like a buoy in a turbulent sea. Hope is not going to save us, it will only give you a manageable mood. But hopelessness won't help either.
What keeps me from depression is by being an activist with a hopeful and ambitious strategy; creating a gigantic digital network of networks that will gather all the disparate groups and projects on the planet that are doing their part to help make a regenerative, sane, and ethical world for the purpose of collaborating and organizing on all scales. The stakes being so monumental, fire my passion to volcanic levels to persist in accomplishing this. And I, we, (I am not alone) need all the help we can get. utopiacornucopia.org.
