At SHUTE we have an all in-house production facility for producing polymer optical fibers.

Polymer fibers have the advantage that, they:
✅ can be stretched up to 6%
✅ can be produced with a high NA 0.5+
✅ have a low bending radius, and are very flexible

As we produce all fibers in-house we can customize the production to your specs.

Before the holidays, SHUTE was mentioned together with partner Synergia Medical in an article on how: “Optical Fiber Winds Its Way Through Next-Generation Health Care.”

An article focusing on how photonics assist medtech in new groundbreaking possibilities.

Unfortunately, the article left out some of the text in the beginning of the third paragraph of the “The potential of polymers” section. The paragraph should have started: “SHUTE has been working with Belgian Synergia Medical on the development of high-tech polymer fibers for inner body usage. Synergia Medical has implanted their groundbreaking NAO.VNS system in patients, as part of the AURORA study, which will evaluate its safety for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy.”

Thanks Antonio Castelo, EPIC and Photonics Spectra for bringing attention to optical fibers in general and polymer optical fibers in particular in medtech. Monitoring humidity is difficult!

If you are looking for a humidity sensor that monitors between 0.2-100% RH and even survives being dipped into water, then take a look at our new 1550nm mPOF Humidity Sensor.

Especially the fact that a humidity sensor now is available for C-band interrogators could be of interest to our colleagues in EPIC, as it can be used in combination with their own strain and temperature FBG sensors.

We also offer an all metal-free PEEK housing, which we have tested together with representatives from international top-tier companies, using the LUNA Inc Hyperion SI255 and other C-band interrogators.
