You’ve probably heard of greenwashing, but have you heard of greenhushing? 🤫

🔹Greenhushing is a recent phenomenon where companies hide their environmental impact or green initiatives to avoid greenwashing accusations.

🔹While it's important to be cautious about making false or exaggerated sustainability claims, greenhushing can also have negative consequences. It can prevent companies from sharing their successes and inspiring others to take action, as well as encourage collaborative efforts.

🔹So how can companies avoid greenwashing and greenhushing?

A new EU directive (CSRD) will tighten the reporting requirement on emissions for companies💡

But what is the CSRD, and what does this mean for production companies?

In short, the CRSD are new regulations by the EU that aim to strengthen and update existing corporate sustainability reporting standards. The CRSD, which came into effect this year, will require around 50.000 companies and, eventually, SMEs to provide climate data on their products and processes. Some larger companies already have to report on the financial year for 2024.

It may seem complicated to know where to start for production companies with complex supply chains, a lack of calculation tools, and having to change business as usual.

So how can these companies stay ahead of the curve while overcoming these challenges?

One way is through data-driven decarbonization. Production companies can start incorporating this into their sustainability strategy using digital platforms that calculate carbon emissions on their products and processes.

We are very happy to have Ana join the Reflow team as our new Digital Designer. She will be working with UI/UX and making sure our platform looks and feels great to use and help our users easily make LCA calculations of their emissions 🚀

Let’s get to know Ana a bit:

“I’m Ana, a UI/UX designer from Serbia. As a digital designer, I’ve previously worked with web and graphic design. I’ve studied philosophy and pedagogy, but I’ve always been interested in working creatively, leading me to work with digital design. I also make ceramic jewellery and t-shirt designs, so I’m always looking for new ways to work with a design approach.”

One of Europe's largest foundry groups has chosen ReFlow as decarbonization partner.

Today the news landed that we have been chosen by the foundry group Vald. Birn A/S to assist the green transition of more than six European subsidiaries.

“We are very excited that a renowned company like BIRN group has chosen us to assist them with their green transition. We see a large potential in our important work with the group as we have set some very ambitious goals that will make the organization data-driven in its climate efforts” says our CEO Rasmus Elsborg-Jensen.

🔹 Emission Scopes - what you need to know! 🔹

What are scopes of emissions? Why do they matter?

They matter because mapping them out will be the key to decarbonization 🔑

Scopes of emissions are different types of greenhouse gases (GHG) that have been categorized based on the source of the emissions.

🚚 Scope 1: A company’s direct emissions, that can come from the combustion of fuels such as gas and petrol.

💡 Scope 2: Emissions from purchased energy (electricity, heating)

🔗 Scope 3: These are the company’s value chain emissions, that are ‘indirectly’ emitted through a company’s purchases, investments, and waste disposal.

Scope 3 emissions usually make up the majority of a company’s total emissions. In some cases up to 90%! But not nearly enough companies are reporting on this Scope category - leaving lots of untapped room for improvement but no action plan to follow…

Even though it is not mandatory yet for companies to report on their Scope 3 emissions, you can still prepare for when it does, by collecting emission data from your products, processes, and supply chain.

Using data-driven decarbonization tools, such as our lifecycle assessment-based platform, to get an overview of emissions can enable companies to start their decarbonization journeys ♻️

We have now begun our cooperation with the Turkish CEMRE SHIPYARD, making it possible for the shipyard to gain valuable insight into the processes and material use in shipbuilding - an essential step towards green shipbuilding as the construction of a vessel is a significant contributor to the indirect emissions of a vessel.

"Working with CEMRE is an important milestone for us as a new hybrid, and zero direct emission vessels currently are being built at the yard. Our initial data shows that the construction phase is a substantial contributor and, for the new generation of green vessels, one of the largest. Our new cooperation with CEMRE will allow the yard to get insights and, over time, bring down their emissions - making green vessels even greener," Says our CEO Rasmus Elsborg-Jensen 🌱
