Siemens Stiftung and BLUETOWN launch AccessSTEM in four schools in the Eastern Region of Ghana to enable access to high-quality Open Educational Resources (OERs) in semi-urban Ghana.

The project will enable up to 5,000 teachers connect to BLUETOWN’s local cloud and improve teaching methods specifically in the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects and vocational orientation of students, ultimately training the students in future skills.

BLUETOWN is committed to expanding connectivity solutions to 1,000 schools throughout Ghana and this collaboration with Siemens Stiftung complements our goal of improving education through digitalization.

Happy International Girls in ICT Day!

As we celebrate girls in ICT today, we are determined to continue closing the . Through our USAID - US Agency for International Development and Microsoft supported Women's Meaningful Access Project, we partner with The Hunger Project and their rural epicenter communities to provide ICT centers equipped with computers, Internet, and Local Cloud access.

As a result, we have seen extraordinary impact allowing girls and women who otherwise had no access to connectivity to use digital means for school research, learning vocational skills, entrepreneurship, and even how to code.

The focus of this year’s Wi-Fi India Summit is on enablers for PM WANI and the proliferation of Wi-Fi Hotspots in the country. BIF firmly believes that PM WANI can, and will, greatly augment the availability of Public Wi-Fi hotspots to achieve the NDCP target of 'Broadband for All', and would lead to seamless delivery of Wi-Fi services to the citizens at affordable rates and more consistent Quality of Experience/broadband speeds. We are proud to have been highlighted as an investment case to the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP SDG Investor Platform. The platform promotes sustainable companies and makes it easy for investors to identify investment opportunities with a positive impact, sustainability, and high returns.

According to the UNDP SDG Investor Platform research, the business model's indicative return (In IRR) is 15-20% with a payback of 5-10 years with a market potential of 4.4 million people in Ghana alone. In addition, they evaluate that the business model contributes directly to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

We were recommended to the SDG Investor Platform through our UNDP Business Call to Action (BCtA) participation. Head of BCtA, Luciana Trindade de Aguiar, said the following about BLUETOWN when we joined:

"Research shows that having internet connectivity increases living standards. BLUETOWN's solutions have reached over a million people, most of whom are connecting to the internet for the first time. This week BLUETOWN Ghana signed an important MoU with the Ghanaian Ministry of Education – a step toward closing the digital divide in Ghana. Together, we will connect schools, health clinics, and local populations in 1,000 rural and remote Ghanaian communities over the next five years.

In a 100-community pilot over the coming year, we aim to prove sustainability and social and economic impact from the initiative. For this, we are looking for additional partners whose services and solutions, e.g., education, health, or agriculture, are geared toward rural communities and will benefit from access to connectivity.

More than 2 billion women around the world are excluded from the global digital community. Bringing women online is key to communities and countries’ sustainable development.
We have partnered with The Hunger Project and launched a pilot project to create a sustainable and scalable approach for bridging the and increasing women’s economic opportunities. Together with the U.S. Agency for International Development and Microsoft’s Airband Initiative, The Hunger Project is a critical partner in the Women’s Meaningful Access Program. The program provides Internet access, relevant content, digital skills, tools, motivations, and enabling environments for women’s digital inclusion in rural communities in Eastern Ghana.
