What is the number one challenge in your recruiting process? 🔍

It can be frustrating to find the right talent.

This can get even more difficult when you don’t really know who is your ideal candidate.

What often happens in startups, is that during the recruitment process hiring managers are starting to realize who might be the fit. Unfortunately most of the time it’s based on gut feelings and assumptions.

In short:
💪 Identify top 5-7 hard key requirements that you can’t live without
🙏 Identify 4 non-negotiable soft skills
✍ Write proper job descriptions

When starting a new company, the founder will open up for new positions when they have the budget for it, which often is a good sign.

On the other hand, if the average employee tenure with the company is short, it can indicate internal issues.

During an interview, you can ask a few subtle questions to find out the employee retention situation.

An example of questions to ask:

1. "Can you tell me more about, the reason for this position being open?"

2. "When your employees have a long tenure with you, what would you say, is the main reason for that?"

3. "I'm interested in being in this company for a long time. What should I do, to ensure that happens?"

4. "According to LinkedIn, the average tenure is X amount of years in your company. What's your view on that number?"

Have you ever read a job description that raised a question in your head:

Is this really a job for one person?

Often job descriptions and qualifications are made with a "spray and pray" method, but this can raise a potential red flag. It can mean that the company has no idea who they need to fill in the position.

Here is an example of a question you can ask the hiring manager, to clarify what's most important for them, in a new employee:

1. "You stated in your job ad that you're looking for X, Y, and Z. Which skill would you say is the most important one for you?"

There should always be clear alignment with who the company is looking for and your position expectations.

If you’re applying for a job but the hiring manager is discrete about essential details it can potentially be a red flag.

Try to ask these questions to get more clarity.

Open-ended question:
1. "Can you tell me more about how you ensure I, as an employee, can develop my own career? "

Specific question:
2. "Having a proper plan for career development is essential for me. Can you tell me more about how you structure personal development?"

We’ve made a new partnership with One Tree Planted to support their mission to build a greener tomorrow through reforestation.

It’s crucial for us to make an active effort to fight climate change and help the environment in any way we see possible.
