🔧 Behind the scenes at PolyStruc 🧠

Yes, you guessed it — we’re building something new.
Meet PolyFrame.

Over the past months, Søren has been working side-by-side with engineers from both small offices and large firms.
He’s been listening. Testing. Asking questions.

The mission?
To make PolyFrame feel like every other PolyStruc tool you know:
🟢 Easy to use
📄 Clear documentation
💡 Built for everyday engineering

It’s not finished yet — but we’re getting close.
And we can’t wait to share more with you soon.

📐 Orography made easy 🏞️

The Eurocode figures on orography can be a real brain teaser 🧩
Many engineers find it hard to match them with reality – and even harder to assess orography from a satellite image.

That’s why we’ve made an article with simple sketches and examples to make the rules easier to understand.

And the best part? PolyWind automatically accounts for orography.

👋 Meet Hamid! 👋

With two years in consulting engineering, Hamid knows his stuff. And now he’s here to make it simpler, faster, and just a bit more fun to be an engineer using PolyStruc’s tools.

Here’s where you’ll meet him:
💬 On support – when you’re stuck
📚 In articles, guides, and case studies – turning tricky topics into simple solutions
💡 In Teams meetings – showing you new features you can use right away

Hamid is the kind of person who would rather reach out once too often than once too little – and we love that.

We’re thrilled to have Hamid on board – and can’t wait to see how much easier he’ll make life for our users.

A familiar frustration ➡️ A fresh solution

We’ve heard it time and time again:
“This is missing.”
“This takes too long.”
“This could be simpler.”

So we had to build it for you.
Right now, it’s taking shape — it’s not ready to share just yet.

We’re still refining it. Because it has to meet the standards we believe in:
🧩 Intuitive to use
📄 Clear documentation
📐 Reliable, precise calculations

Can you guess what it is? 👀

📋 Did you know? 📋

PolyBeam and PolyColumn has a "Copy to Clipboard" feature.

It lets you grab your shear forces and moments fast – and paste them right into your reports.
💡 And yes – it supports torsion too.

It’s a small trick that saves time and keeps things simple.

🎉 New feature alert: Asymmetric reinforcement in PolyColumn! 🎉
Did you know we now have four concrete cross-sections in PolyColumn?

Just in time before the summer break, Nicolai added a brand-new one: rectangular sections with asymmetric reinforcement 💻

Now he’s off to enjoy a well-deserved holiday – and hopefully a cold ice cream in the sun 🍦☀️

Have a great summer! ☀️

♻️ July is here – and so are new LCA rules!
We want to give you a helping hand in lowering your CO₂ footprint 🤝
With just a few tweaks in PolyBeam and PolyColumn, you can design smarter and greener.

📸 Check the pictures below for examples – small changes, big impact!

🔍 Here's what’s changed:

🔹 Before:
→ Only for buildings over 1000 m²
→ Limit: 12 kg CO₂-eq/m²/year

🔹 Now (from July 1, 2025):
→ Applies to all new buildings
→ CO₂ limits depend on building type:
• Summerhouses < 150 m²: 4.0
• Summerhouses ≥ 150 m²: 6.7
• Single-family homes, row houses: 6.7
• Multi-storey housing & commercial: 7.5
• Institutions: 8.0
• Other new buildings > 50 m²: 8.0

🚗💥 What happens when a car collide with a wall or column…

Absolutely nothing… if you’ve designed it with the new ALS feature (Accidental limit state) in PolyColumn. 😉

Now you can easily calculate accidental actions – such as vehicle impact loads – in PolyColumn
Update PolyColumn and be one of the first to try the new ALS feature.

🌲 Save up to 67% in material
Want to lower your carbon footprint and reduce material use?
LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) might be your best option.

It has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than traditional timber. That means you can reduce section sizes and save up to 67% in material. 💡

That means:
Less material means:
📉 Lower weight
🌍 Lower CO₂ footprint
💸 Lower costs
You can now calculate with LVL directly in PolyBeam – simple, fast, and documented.
✨ Do you use LVL in your projects? Let us know – we’d love to hear! 💬

🔄 Biaxial bending in concrete columns – beyond Eurocode’s simplification

How do you design for biaxial bending?
👉 Eurocode 5.8.9 offers a simplified method. It splits bending into two directions and adds utilizations using a the power-sum formula.

But reality columns don’t bend in two directions.
They rotate and bend around a tilted axis.
🎯 That’s exactly what the general method does. It finds the real neutral axis through iteration.

📊 We compared both methods on a square column under different axial loads.

The result?
✅ At high axial force: small difference.
⚠️ At low axial force: simplified method underestimates the capacity.

🎯 PolyColumn uses the general method with an iterative search for the true neutral axis – giving you a more realistic and less conservative result.

Concrete Beams and Shear Reinforcement 👀

Eurocode EN1992-1-1, clause 6.2.3(5) allows you to reduce the shear force —But only for distributed loading and depending on where the load is applied on the cross-section

but only depending on where the load is applied.

👉 In PolyBeam, the length increment adapts to the load position. It’s shown with a dotted curve (V₂).

This helps you design stirrups more efficiently.

But what if the load isn’t at the top?
🔸 Middle: 0.5 · z · cot(θ)
🔸 Bottom: 0 · z · cot(θ) — That’s zero - no reduction, you have to design your stirrups for the full shear force 🤯

PolyBeam adjusts the design so the load is safely transferred – every time. ✅

🎉 New update in PolyBeam! 🎉

Now you can add different concrete covers in different directions.
But that’s not all…

We’ve added LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber) to timber design! 🌲
As focus on the environment grows, so does the use of LVL – it’s both greener and stronger. ♻️💪

Go to PolyBeam and try it 🙌
