This year AATE VR has been able to celebrate 10 years of growing expertise in the development of VR solutions for the healthcare sector. We have gone from carrying large suitcases and duffel bags filled with equipment for a single VR system to now carrying a small tote bag with two VR systems. An equally significant transformation has taken place in the VR content itself, where we have gained much deeper insight into the “dos and don’ts” of creating meaningful and value-adding VR experiences. 🕶️🚀

At AATE VR, we are now at a point where we feel truly well established, with a strong value proposition, a robust product, an outstanding development team, and some great, visionary collaboration partners. 💪🤝

We’re filled with gratitude for the organizations that took a chance and believed in us in the early years, when we had only one or two SundSim VR scenarios on the platform. I am equally grateful to the organizations that more recently have gained access to the SundSim VR platform and are creating exciting learning experiences for their pupils, students, or staff. 🌱🌳

Even though we have worked on developing VR experiences for more than 10 years, it can still feel as though we are only at the very beginning of realizing the full potential of VR technology. We are convinced that there is a vast amount of untapped value for organizations in VR-based learning technology, and we would very much like to be the company that helps them unlock that value over the next 10, 20, or even 100 plus years. ✨🔮

So thank you for the past 10 years. Thank you for a fantastic 2025, and wishing you all a very Merry Christmas from AATE VR. 🎄❤️

Nursing students try out ‘The Blood Journey’! 🩸🥽

Right now, we’re working on expanding our 'Heart Journey’ scenario, which is now evolving into ‘The Blood Journey’. This means we’re including the journey from the heart through the pulmonary circulation (the small circulation) as well as the journey from the heart through the systemic circulation (the large circulation). 🔃⚡️

A couple of weeks ago, we had the opportunity to run another prototype test, this time with nursing students who had not yet received any teaching on the anatomy of the heart and the circulatory system. That’s an opportunity we rarely turn down, as it gives us valuable insights into the end users’ experience of the various visualizations and functionalities we’re developing. 🗣️💬

We walked away from the prototype test with a wealth of golden takeaways, suggestions for improvements, and plenty of great ideas for further development of the VR scenario. Much of this will make its way into the final version, which will be part of the big December update of SundSim VR. We can’t wait to show you more. 🦵🫁

A huge thank-you to Nis and Kari from VIA University College for sharing all your expertise, including insights on red blood cell deformation in the capillaries and the function of the venous valves. I learn something new every time we meet. 🧠✨

Global Release of Our ‘Heimlich Simulator’ Scenario! 🚀🌎

At AATE VR, our mission is to democratize access to simulation training in basic first aid and make this type of training as authentic and user-friendly as possible. ❤️‍🩹✨

We have succeeded in creating one of the world’s most successful VR training scenarios for CPR with the ‘CPR Simulator’ scenario, which now has over 7,000 active users. We hope that the Heimlich Simulator will be just as widely used around the world. 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️

To increase accessibility and encourage users to develop skills in multiple first aid disciplines, we have chosen to include free access to the ‘Heimlich Simulator’ scenario within the ‘HLR Simulator’ scenario, and vice versa. 🎉🎁

We are happy and proud to have reached this milestone, and we hope this new release will help prevent accidents and injuries among people who experience choking incidents. 🗣️💨

Thanks to Presto for the great collaboration on the development of Heimlich Simulator. 💙

Have a great Friday! 👋😊

We’ve made VR casting into VR-“coasting”! 🥽👌

What may seem super simple, as shown in the video below, can be very complex to technically create. 👨‍💻⚙️

The ‘casting’ functionality is one of those things that can be hard to approach when you want to build everything from scratch, and also understand how it works. Video is a very heavy file format, which makes it difficult to transmit wirelessly, without too much signal delay, in high resolution, and still keep the connection stable. 🥽📲

It’s a functionality we’ve attempted to develop twice before, and we finally succeeded on the third try! 3️⃣🎉

This also means we’re introducing a dedicated SundSim VR app for tablets, which guides the user through the few steps needed to set up casting. It will also be in this app that users can remotely control 360° videos on multiple VR headsets at once. 🚀✨

We’ll soon be sending out a newsletter to our superusers, where they can read more about the new dedicated SundSim VR app and the release date. 🫳🗞️

We’re absolutely thrilled to have now found a solution that makes using casting features much more user-friendly. It’s going to elevate the entire experience with SundSim VR. 🌱🌳

Have a great day! 👋😊

A great Friday announcement: Collaboration with SOSU Fyn! 🎉✨

We are proud to announce that we are now partnering with Social- og Sundhedsskolen Fyn on the use of SundSim VR. And our pride only grew when our contact at the school told us they had been keeping an eye on what we were working on, and that they had only heard good things about us. 💪⭐️

We were brought a bit back down to earth during an in-person demo with the school’s teachers when we were told that the tractor in the introduction to our SundSim VR scenario “Treatment of a citizen with COPD in their own home” was the wrong color. She explained that, of course, it shouldn’t be a green John Deere like it is now, but preferably a blue New Holland. 💚💙

On one hand, we’re glad that the little details we implement to create atmosphere, depth, and authenticity are being noticed. On the other hand, Ege took a hit on a personal level, since he grew up on a farm where they used John Deere. 🦌🌳

Jokes aside, we had a really exciting demo session with SOSU Fyn, where the teachers provided a wealth of great input on expanding existing scenarios and developing new ones. Everything was noted, and we look forward to working with the school to bring their ideas to life. 🚀✨

Have a great Friday! 👋😊

New SundSim VR scenario on surgical handwash and gowning! 🧴💪

Very soon, all SundSim VR users will be able to let their students, trainees, and staff practice surgical handwashing, disinfection, and gowning. This will be possible in our new scenario, aptly titled ‘Surgical handwashing, disinfection, and gowning.’ 🫧🤲

It’s a scenario where we've pushed the boundaries of what’s possible to practice and visualize in VR. This full-scale scenario has brought about a range of innovations, including:

A dynamic body movement system that can transition in and out of pre-defined animations/movements depending on the user’s actions. It’s especially used during fine motor tasks such as rubbing in and washing hands. 👏😌

An intelligent arm-washing tracking system, which alerts the user to mistakes such as washing in the wrong direction or on the wrong area. 🫳💪

An active elbow-height monitoring system that notifies the user if their hands drop below elbow height at critical moments during the handwashing process. ⬇️❌

Highly detailed instruments and garments, each with their own unique unpacking procedures. For example, a sequence where the user must shake out a sterile gown correctly in order to unfold and put it on. 👕👋

And a range of other innovative interactions. 🚀✨

The scenario will be released alongside the summer update of SundSim VR, which will also include our dedicated SundSim VR App, which will be used for casting and remote control of 360° video content on SundSim VR headsets. 🥽📱

A big thank you to Aarhus Universitetshospital for the great development collaboration. We look forward to continuing our work together! 💙

Have a great day. 👋😊

Presentation of SundSim VR at UC SYD! 🥽✨

Last week, we had the pleasure of conducting a presentation of SundSim VR for the teaching staff at UC SYD’s nursing education. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

It was great to feel the clear interest in using VR technology as part of the teaching. This was especially evident through the many ideas that were shared, both regarding the expansion of our existing scenarios and the development of new SundSim VR scenarios. 🗣️💬

Here, I want to highlight 3 ideas that we’re bringing into our continued development of the SundSim VR scenarios:

An expansion of the ‘Anatomy and Physiology’ scenario, where it becomes possible to explore the digestive system and the brain. 🥗🧠

An expansion of ‘Basic Resuscitation at the Hospital’, where the user must give the command ‘Clear, oxygen off, I’m shocking’, and look around to ensure no colleagues are touching the patient before delivering a shock with the defibrillator. 🫀⚡️

A new SundSim VR scenario on clinical leadership, where the user must communicate and coordinate with other professionals regarding the care of a hospitalized patient. 👩‍⚕️💬

Many thanks to Buxbom Villadsen, Rasch Woersaa, and Rikke Lise Steffensen from UC SYD for the great dialogue and exciting presentation meeting. We hope to establish a collaboration with you in the near future. 💙

Have a great day out there. 👋😊

New partnership with ZBC on the use of SundSim VR! 🥽🎉

ZBC is one of the largest educational institutions in Zealand, and we see it as an important milestone for us to now be able to say that they are using SundSim VR. ✨🚀

In our dialogue with ZBC, it has especially been our expertise in ‘embodied and 3D-interactive’ learning scenarios, combined with our ‘SundSim VR 360’ video platform, that has played a key role in their decision to begin using SundSim VR. 🧠🥽

When we begin a new collaboration with an organization, it's important to us that from day one, they feel we prioritize creating a positive experience around their use of SundSim VR. We do this through direct and transparent communication, efficient setup of the Introduction Course, and frequent reminders that if any challenges arise, we want to be contacted so we can solve them right away. 🤝💬

VR technology is still new for most people, and you can’t assume that everyone is on board with it from the start. That’s why we dedicate a significant amount of our resources to making user-friendliness shine through, both in the activities surrounding SundSim VR and during its actual use. 🌱🌳

We’re looking forward to an exciting collaboration with ZBC and will do everything we can to create great results for them. ✨🌟

Have a great day out there! 👋😊

How do you perform CPR on a child between the ages of 1 and 8? ⚡️❤️

There are certain elements of the resuscitation procedure for children that differ from the procedure used for adults. These differences can be practiced through our SundSim VR scenario 'CPR Simulator'. 👦❤️

This includes, among other things:

Giving 5 rescue breaths after it is assessed that the child is unconscious and not breathing. 😗💨

Using a different type of defibrillator electrodes, specifically designed for children, which must be placed differently. ⚡️✅

Performing chest compressions with one hand, applying pressure through the heel of the hand. 🤚↕️

The integration of a child in ‘CPR Simulator’ opens up new possibilities for the development of SundSim VR scenarios involving children and treatment of citizens and patients in this age group. Feel free to reach out if you have ideas for these types of learning scenarios. 💡✨

One of the next natural steps in the continued development of ‘CPR Simulator’ will be the ability to practice CPR with an infant. 👶❤️

Big thanks to , a sister company to First-8.dk - Sammen skaber vi et sikkert Danmark, who have contributed to refining the VR learning experience around child resuscitation. Super skilled people who work very closely with the established guidelines and conduct first aid courses across the country. 🚙🇩🇰

Have a great Thursday. 👋😊

How can you ensure proper weight transfer? 🛌✅

Inside the SundSim VR scenario ‘Transferring a Bedridden Patient’, we have integrated an intelligent ‘Push and Pull System’ that guides users in performing proper weight transfer. ☝️👩

Using the three tracking points of the VR equipment (the headset and two controllers), the system actively triangulates the user's movement patterns. It then provides feedback on whether the weight transfer is executed correctly or incorrectly. 🥽✋🤚

The Push and Pull System can detect if:

✅ The user is transferring weight too quickly.
✅ The user is pushing or pulling too much to the left or right.
✅ The user is pushing or pulling too much up or down.
✅ The user is using only one hand.
✅ The user is pulling or pushing with their arms instead of their whole upper body.
✅ The user is looking in the correct direction.
..and several other parameters. 💪🦵👀

Through extensive testing of this learning scenario—particularly with social and healthcare students (SOSU) and hospital porters—it became clear that users become more aware of their posture and movement patterns. They adjust their technique when the system detects an improper weight transfer. ❌✅

A big thank you for an excellent development collaboration to Krogsgaard, Lisa Møller Jacobsen, and Øllegaard Hansen from SOSU Østjylland, and for sharing your expertise in transfer techniques and didactics. 💙

Dose medication for different citizens! 💊👴

In our "Medication Management" scenario, you can dose medication for three different citizens, each with their own unique profile and specific medication needs. 🧓✅

This functionality is also used in other SundSim VR scenarios, such as "Treatment of a citizen with COPD" and "CPR Simulator". We primarily use it to simulate the variations users may experience in the real world. 👨‍⚕️👩‍⚕️

Additionally, it helps us gradually increase the difficulty of our VR learning scenarios, allowing users to test their skills at a more advanced level. This also means the scenario can be revisited multiple times during training, with increasing difficulty as the student progresses in their education. 🌱🌳

Beyond selecting different citizens, users can also choose various distractions during the scenario, further adjusting the difficulty level. 💥🤷‍♂️

All citizens, their profiles, and medication schedules have been developed in collaboration with skilled teachers and experts from SOSU schools across the country. 🗣️✨

A huge thanks to Ane Lange Andersen, Syd, -Mette Kiel, Østjylland, Kommune, and Syddjurs Kommune for sharing your expertise and contributing to the development of these features. 💙

“[…] I live in Ukraine, in a frontline city, seeing how many civilians do not even know basic first aid methods, I can definitely say that this simulator can theoretically help save someone's life.”

A review of our CPR Simulator scenario we received yesterday that left us with a lump in our throats. 😳❤️

On one hand, we’re happy that our VR simulation scenario for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation has reached someone who can see great potential in our solution. 🫀⚡️

On the other hand, it’s also a rather sobering reminder that there are people in Europe at war, and that there are civilians in war zones who haven’t learned the basic methods of CPR. 😞❗️

Our thoughts are with all the civilians affected by war, along with a hope for peace in Ukraine soon. 🇺🇦✌️
