If you ask the serial cyber security entrepreneur Bjarke Petersen what he sees as the biggest challenges in regards to cyber security he will say budget and prioritization.

One of the key strategies to maintain a high level of cyber security is to do a pen test.

A pen test is a security exercise where a cyber-security expert attempts to find and exploit vulnerabilities in a companies computer system. The purpose of this simulated attack is to identify any weak spots in a system's defenses which attackers could take advantage of.

We all know the feeling of thinking "why should we be doing this thing? Does it even matter if I do it?"

This way of thinking often comes from initiatives that are too ambitious or not explained well enough, and that is why it is so important that you choose an effective password management program that will do the task in a simple and easy-to-navigate way.

In our newest podcast episode we talk to cyber security specialist Bjarke Petersen about how password management programs can be a strong tool to ensure a high level of cyber security, but also how it can have the opposite effect if it is not perceived as important by the employees.

Customized training vs. Streamlined training?

Jonas Klærke and Anders Bryde are discussing the need for customized training for each employee. Not only is customized training time consuming, but it also take away the possibility of the employees to discuss the training across departments in the company, which is an important part of shaping the culture within the company.

You can find the podcast wherever you listen to them by searching for "Coffee and Cyber Security".

04/11/2024

We have invited Jonas Klærke on to the podcast to talk about the 5 most typical misconceptions about security awareness training.

The 5 misconceptions are:

1. A Few Big Events Are Enough for your security training
2. Grouping Training Topics By Category
3. Training Alone Makes You Secure
4. Training is a "Set It and Forget It" Process
5. Over-Customizing Training for Every Employee

"If nobody cares if I'm taking this test or doing this training, why should I even do it then?"

Does this way of thinking sound familiar to you? Don't worry, you are not the only one.

In order to boost the IT security engagement, management needs to create a Culture of Care where everybody knows who is in charge of each test, training and task in general.

When our grandmother ask us, so what do you do at work?
It can sometimes be difficult to explain.

In this video, we try to.

Hopefully, our grandmothers understand it now. 😉

If you are now curious about how we do phishing simulations and training, you can always read more on our website.

Normally we don't want to be the ones who: "Paint the devil on the wall".
(That's a bad translation of a Danish saying)

It means, we don't want to create and spread fear.
Plenty of people do that.

We want to praise solutions.

But when we asked our colleagues why phishing is dangerous, it was the big consequences that came to mind.

And honestly, they are not wrong.

A ransomware attack cost you in average:

💵 376.350 Danish Kroner if you are 10-49 employees
💵 2 million Danish Kroner if you are more than 50 employees

So yeah, it's worth looking into how you can protect your company against phishing and ransomware attacks.

The consequences of non-compliance are serious:

Big fines.

Bad reputation.

Personal accountability for C-level execs.

But don’t worry. No need to panic.

Our new course covers:
- Key information about the NIS2 directive
- A guide to the 10 cybersecurity requirements in NIS2
- Examples of working with NIS2

Follow along as we release the new course next week.

Did you know, that the most used password is still "123456" ?

Every year NordPass publish their list of the most used passwords in the world.

And sadly, the only real surprise in top 100 is probably "Minecraft".

The rest are the usual suspects:

- Admin
- 123456
- 12345678
- password
- qwerty

So, what can we learn from that?

We still need to get people to start with the basics.

Create long and unique passwords and add multi-factor authentication.
