This marks a key step in our mission to accelerate the green transition of buildings across Europe – and beyond – through AI-powered energy optimisation.

“We’ve followed Ento for some time and are deeply impressed with the team. The company has clear results, strong local roots and a sharp focus on energy efficiency – a key driver of the green transition,” says Carsten Hoegh Christiansen, CEO of AURA Energi.

With more than 30,000 buildings already under analysis, we are looking forward to increasing this number by scaling further across Europe.

🚽 A single leaking toilet cost one building owner 140,000 DKK a year.
🚨 Heating a parking garage ramp in summer accumulated to 120,000 DKK.
🌡️ Optimising district heating return temperature saved a housing association 600,000 DKK

Energy waste has a massive impact – and it is everywhere.

But with the right tech, it’s also preventable. 💡

All good things come in threes – Roberto Chiosa is now completing our Italian triangle of energy expertise. 🇮🇹⚡

🤖 After studying Energy and Nuclear Engineering in Turin and spending time abroad in São Paulo, Roberto realised his side interest in coding was more than just a hobby. He turned his focus from turbines to tech – combining data, statistics, and software to tackle real-world energy problems.

🤓 Since then, he’s done a bit of everything: working as a researcher on energy information systems, spending time in San Francisco at Lawrence Berkeley Lab, founding a golf-tech startup, and freelancing as a software developer on metering infrastructure.

⚙️ At Ento, Roberto now plays a key role between engineering and data integrations. He ensures that the data we receive from utilities flows as smoothly as his 7-iron swing. 🏌️‍♂️
By building the infrastructure behind our analytics, he helps create the foundation that allows our customers to reduce waste and emissions.

🧠 Roberto loves solving complex problems (“it’s like crosswords, but more advanced and fun”), and says that what keeps him motivated is knowing each day brings a new challenge worth waking up for.

🏢 For the third episode of our ‘Energy Hero’ series we met with Yonas Meshaima who is one of the energy managers at Holstebro Kommune.

💪 During our tour of the city’s former Slaughterhouse, we learned how an old building can be repurposed successfully and turned into a cultural center and local meeting point – while keeping sustainability in mind.

⚡ Old concrete buildings come with unique challenges – like implementing an indoor climate strategy to optimise the heating and ventilation for both efficiency and comfort.

We decided to send out a bunch of cake to surprise some of our customers – and almost everything went wrong. 😄⬇️

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚:
We often ask our customers what they get for doing a great job in Energy Management:

“Did you get a promotion when you saved +100,000 Euro on fixing the heating system?”

“Did anyone even say thank you?”

The truth is, they often don’t get recognition.

So we came up with the idea to celebrate some of the biggest wins we’ve seen in 2024 … with CAKE. 🍰

𝐖𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝟖 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬:

🔹 Most registered energy saving projects
🔹 The project that resulted in the largest savings - public organisation
🔹 The project that resulted in the largest savings - private organisation
🔹 Municipality with the largest total savings
🔹 The action that resulted in the largest water saving
🔹 The building with the largest savings
🔹 Being in control of district heating penalties
🔹 Best Newcomer

So all that was left to do was to order and ship some cake. Easy, right?

Well… it turned out, cake is not as easy to “ship” as software:

🥲 With customers from Northern Jylland to Southern Zealand, no bakery could cover all of them (despite a bakery chain telling us the opposite at first).

🥲 Due to food safety regulations, we couldn’t include a message to be delivered with the cakes. So how would our customers know what the cake was for?
(Solution: have a custom link to a landing page written on the cake).

🥲 Some cakes could only be paid for in cash – which is difficult if you are not nearby.

🥲 For some others, online orders/payment kept failing.

😱 … and most importantly: our customers didn’t expect any cake. So a few of the cakes actually got turned down at first.

Thanks to the persistence of the delivery guys, all winners were united with their cakes in the end.

… but please don’t expect us to do it again next year. 😂

Many of our customers at Ento use hundreds of indoor air quality sensors – that makes identifying areas where air quality is poor a time-consuming task.

That's why we've developed a new AI-powered feature that analyses sensor data in real-time. 🤖

It uses a 1-5 scale, based on benchmarks for CO2 and temperature levels, to highlight spaces that require attention.

By this, building managers can focus on making improvements rather than analysing data.

𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬, 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐢𝐫:

➡️ The new feature integrates with our existing Ento Control (predictive heating and ventilation) and Ento Advisor (AI-powered energy analysis).

➡️ It will also link up with platforms like Danfoss Leanheat Building, IoT Fabrikken, CLIMIFY, and CLIMAID – and work with partners such as Elsys Lorawan sensors or any other off the shelf sensors.

With growing regulatory focus on indoor air quality, we believe this feature will be a huge asset for our customers.

During the energy crisis many large building owners cut non-essential consumption drastically.

We were tasked with documenting the impact of the energy conservation measures across more than 10,000 public buildings – and have since also run this analysis on several large commercial portfolios.

Ento’s analysis revealed €11 million saved – and a few surprises about which buildings contribute most to energy efficiency. 😯

Many buildings today have HVAC systems that are controlled by Building Management Systems (BMS) – but the data inside these systems is often inaccessible.

Consequently, analysing the data and energy optimising ventilation and heating based on the insights is impossible – until now. We’ve found a way to overcome this challenge.

By installing a gateway, we can unlock the full potential of a building’s current BMS without any large investments. This gives us real-time data and the ability to use AI-powered predictive control to optimise energy usage and occupant comfort.

We recently sent Ento’s data scientist and control engineer on a mission to Holstebro to install a gateway in an elementary school and put this solution to the test. 👩🏻‍💻

We now have full access to the data and control of the system – and can help the school save energy while ensuring a comfortable environment for students and teachers.

The best part?

This solution works not only for buildings that are already online, but for any building with a BMS system.

Now, every HVAC system can be smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable. 🙌

Meet Our Dynamic Duo! 🌟
This summer, we're thrilled to have not one, but two brilliant minds from MIT joining our team. Introducing Pragnya and Ronak, our exceptional interns who are ready to bring fresh perspectives to our projects!

ℹ️ Ronak is a third-year Computer Science student, focusing on AI. This summer, he's developing a machine learning model to detect PV systems from electricity consumption, enhancing our energy management platform.

🎶 Outside the tech world, Ronak is passionate about music, fitness, travel, and movies. Copenhagen has been a delight for him, with its biking culture and diverse culinary scene adding excitement to his stay.


ℹ️ Pragnya is a fourth year student majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Decision Making, with a minor in Business Analytics. She was drawn to Ento by her interest in AI and sustainability. Pragnya is contributing to the development of energy models and working on solar PV detection alongside Ronak, guided by Benedetto Grillone, PhD.
