One missing part. One failed controller nobody makes anymore. That's all it takes to shut down a production line, and it happens more often than most people think.
That's the reality behind obsolescence management, a topic industries from defense to rail to medical technology are taking increasingly seriously. It used to mean reacting to discontinued parts. Now it means spotting the risk early, building supply chains that can absorb the next shock, and keeping long-life systems running for decades.
That shift was the real story at our Obsolescence Community Day 2026: manual lists and one-off fixes giving way to a strategic, data-driven approach shared across departments and companies, powered by AMSYS - a Z2Data company and Z2data together.
Heinz Arnold captured it well in a new feature for Markt & Technik (Componeers GmbH), one of Germany's leading electronics trade publications. 📖
