Karl Koch, located in Penzberg in the Bavarian alpine upland, is a software manufacturer dedicated to colormanagement and nothing but. Back in 1993 we were the first ones to offer a complete ICC-based color managemnet system in Europe, the renouned ColorBlind from Color Solutions. Since 2000 we develop our own color management solutions under the brand name basICColor®. And true to our motto „…bec

ause it simply works!“, all our products are user-centric, easy to use but of highest quality. Since 2018 we concentrate on 3 product lines:
• basICColor display – monitor (hardware-)calibration and profiling, QC for monitors and viewing light.
• basICColor input – camera profiling, DCP, ICC and C1 profiles for any digital camera or scanner
• basICColor cockpit – image soft proof and conversion for any kind of images, be it grayscale, RGB, CMYK, MultiColor, raw and even spectral images

Since color isn´t trivial anyhow, we accompany our customers with consultancy and „training on the job“ when they implement or optimize color managed workflows in their company.

Ein altes indianisches Sprichwort sagt: Wenn du merkst, dass du ein totes Pferd reitest, solltest du absteigen. Warum sagt eigentlich niemand den Kameraherstellern, dass sRGB ein solches totes Pferd ist? sRGB wurde 1996 von HP und Microsoft für CRT (Röhren!) Monitore entwickelt. sRGB ist ein Farb....

Apple und die Monitorprofile – Fortsetzung
Die Meldung vom Februar 2021 ist leider auch nach mehreren OS-Upgrades noch aktuell und inzwischen von Apple bestätigt:
"Unfortunately, the LUT based display profiles are not compatible with Mac’s display pipeline and they will not work, regardless if they are XYZ or Lab based."
Für Apple Computer kann basICColor display 6.6 also nach wie vor keine LUT-basierten Monitorprofile erstellen – sorry!
Aber basICColor display 6 hat viele andere Vorteile:
• Es läuft auf M1/M2 Rechnern auch unter Ventura
• Es profiliert die MacBook Pro XDR Displays
• Es läuft auf Windows 11
• Es hardware-kalibriert auch ältere EIZO Monitore
• Es unterstützt auf anderen Monitoren das DDC/CI Protokoll

ACHTUNG!!!!
Apple hat uns mal wieder ein dickes Ei gelegt – oder ist es ein fauler Apfel?
Wenn man auf einem M1 MacBook ein LUT-Profil erstellt, friert der Rechner ein und lässt sich nicht mehr starten.
Einzige Abhilfe: Externen Monitor anhängen, dann das Profil des Retina Display löschen, neu starten.
Die WORKFLOWs „Video“ und „WebDesign“ in basICColor display 6.3 erzeugen auf nicht-hardware-kalibrierbaren Monitoren LUT-Profile, um dort die sRGB-Emulation zu speichern. Diese WORKFLOWs sollten auf M1 Rechnern NICHT benutzt werden.
