brandl , Member of the German Bundestag, is one of the leading and most influential security and defense politicians in Germany - and the patron of SDC26!

About Dr. Brandl:
He is currently the CSU’s parliamentary secretary in the Bundestag, heads their foreign and security policy working group, and is vice president of the Society for Security Policy (GSP).

In these roles, he focuses mainly on issues related to the digitization of the German armed forces (Bundeswehr), cybersecurity, and military aviation. And as chairman of the supervisory board of the Artificial Intelligence Network Ingolstadt (.de ), he also actively promotes the development and deployment of AI in real-life scenarios.

Dr. Brandl has supported the Swarm Drone Challenge format since day one!

And with his deep domain expertise and his exceptional network, he brings value to the challenge that money can’t buy:

„Two or more is already a swarm“ - said Michael Buthut (Head of brigkAIR) in our kickoff event for the on Friday. (⚠️ FYI: Applications are still open!)

This means that every pair, group, team and community is essentially a rudimentary swarm!

However, these clusters of individuals only become truly powerful when orchestrated: United, aligned and well-coordinated, they turn into a force of nature!

And this aspect is exactly what SDC26 is all about!

That is why
- each team needs to deal with 2 to 5 drones at a time!
- the entire event is BOTH: a challenge and a community, focusing on collaboration and progress.

Can you command a swarm? Prove it!
Together with Deutschland, we are launching the Swarm Drone Challenge 2026 – an international competition for students, professionals, and developing their own swarm algorithms.

The format: „Capture the Flag“: two teams with multiple drones each, head-to-head and fully autonomous.
The challenge: We’re looking for teams that can master swarm communication, AI-powered coordination and tactical decision-making.
The prize: €50,000! And a spot on the radar of the industry.

Innovation thrives when diverse perspectives meet!

It was great to recently host an inspiring group of MBA students from Cambridge University at brigkAIR.
These students are deeply engaged in designing and implementing innovative challenges, bringing insightful questions and fresh ideas to our discussion.

During our session, we shared in-depth insights and lessons learned from past projects such as the Deep Drone Challenge and the Swarm Drone Challenge.
Our dialogue went beyond standard methodologies, delving into practical experiences, real-world challenges, and key success factors.

Highlighting the unique advantages of our Manching site was particularly rewarding. With its exceptional infrastructure, strong partnerships, and excellent testing facilities, Manching provides ideal conditions for successfully turning visionary drone technologies into reality.

A huge thank you to the students from Cambridge for the engaging and motivating exchange—we look forward to seeing your innovative concepts come to life!
