Was solche gemeinsamen Erlebnisse so wertvoll macht?

📈 Need to highlight the spread of your data while keeping key values in focus? Range and point plots help you do both.

With Stata 19, you can use the new rpcap and rpspike plot types to display a value alongside a range. This makes it easier to understand how individual values relate to the minimum and maximum.

For example, you can visualize daily stock prices, showing the high, low, and opening prices for each day.

🔹 First, load the example dataset:

sysuse sp500

🔹 Then create a range and point plot:

twoway rpcap high low open date in 1/15

The graph displays high and low stock prices as a capped range, with a marker for the opening price. Alternatively, rpspike connects the high and low values with a simple line.

Range and point plots are useful for visualizing stock prices, measurement ranges, and variability.

🎨 Combine ranges and individual values in one clear visualization.

📊 How can you compare multiple variables across groups without cluttering your graph? Grouping bars by variables offers a clear solution.

With Stata 19, you can now group bars by the variables being plotted using the new groupyvars option. This makes it easier to compare different measures side by side and spot differences across categories.

For example, you can visualize mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure across different age groups.

🔹 First, load the example dataset:

webuse nhanes2

🔹 Then create the grouped bar graph:

graph hbar bpsystol bpdiast, over(agegrp) groupyvars

The graph displays systolic and diastolic blood pressure for different age groups, with bars grouped by the variables being plotted rather than by the age categories.

This feature is useful for comparing multiple measurements, performance indicators, health metrics, and other related variables across different groups.

🎨 A clearer way to compare multiple measures and make your data more informative.

💡 Looking for a clear way to compare values across different categories? Bar graphs make it easy.

With Stata 19, you can explore new graphics features to visualize your data more effectively. Bar graphs are a simple yet powerful way to compare values across categories and identify differences at a glance.

For example, you can visualize sales figures across regions or compare average values between different groups.

🔹 Start with your data: Prepare the variables you want to compare.

🔹 Create your bar graph: Use Stata’s bar graph commands to display your data in a clear, visual format.

Bar graphs are useful for much more than simple comparisons. They can help you present group differences, summary statistics, survey results, and many other types of categorical data in an intuitive way.

🎨 Make your data easier to compare, communicate, and understand with Stata’s graphics features.

📊 Stata Tip of the Day – Creating donut plots in Stata

Did you know that you can create donut plots in Stata with just a few lines of code? 🍩📊

In our new Stata Tip, Asjad Naqvi, PhD shows how to create a donut plot and use it to visualize population data by region.

One way to create this type of visualization in Stata is by using the Sunburst package:

ssc install sunburst, replace

sysuse census, clear

sunburst pop, by(region) full

🎯 Donut plots can be a useful alternative to traditional pie charts when you want to highlight the relative share of different categories while keeping the visualization clean and easy to read.

And if you want to customize your donut plot further, the Sunburst package provides many additional options. Explore the help file to discover more:

help sunburst

A simple and visually engaging way to present proportions and make your Stata graphics stand out!

📍 Live von der ISCB GMDS 2026 in Freiburg! 🎉

Ever found yourself writing the same Stata code over and over again? 👀

That’s where Stata Locals can make a real difference.

On Friday, Asjad Naqvi hosted our free online webinar “Working with Stata Locals” and gave participants practical insights into how Stata Locals can help make code cleaner, more efficient, and reproducible.

From automating repetitive tasks and constructing loops to managing files and paths, the webinar showed how Locals can make everyday Stata workflows more dynamic and easier to maintain.

💡 Want to spot patterns in your data at a glance? Heatmaps make it easier.

With Stata 19, you can now create heatmaps directly using the new twoway heatmap plot type. Heatmaps use colored rectangles to display the values of a variable across two dimensions, making patterns, trends, and differences easier to identify.

For example, you can visualize average temperatures across different months and years.

🔹 First, load the example dataset:

webuse cstemp

🔹 Then create the heatmap:

twoway heatmap temp month year, ylabel(1(1)12, valuelabel) ccuts(45(5)95)

Each rectangle represents a specific month and year, while the color indicates the corresponding temperature range. With the ccuts() option, you can define the cutpoints for the color intervals.

But heatmaps are useful for much more than temperature data. They can help visualize sales figures, crime rates, measurements, correlations, and many other types of numerical data across two dimensions.

🎨 A powerful new way to make complex data patterns easier to explore and understand.
