Choice of crossover frequencies continued – another reason for auditory spaciousness

The Monitor M24 with its almost spherical shape is performing from 500 Hz till 22 kHz. The midrange drivers operate from 500 Hz till 6.5 kHz including the human ear highest sensitivity (between 3 kHz - 4 kHz) avoiding cross over phase distortion in this area.

The Bass B24 acts with its sleek shape in the room as a cylindrical wave source till 500 Hz. The Monitor M24 with its almost spherical shape is performing from 500 Hz till 22 kHz. This is one reason for the auditory spaciousness of the B24 and M24.

Group delay over frequency at ADA loudspeakers :

Investigation of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dieter Leckschat (1992) (University HSD Duesseldorf, Germany) shows group delays derived from headphone investigations from trained auditors:

Frequency range / Hz 55 - 220 220 - 880 880 – 3.5k 3.5k – 14 k
Group Delay audible Leckschat / msec 10 3 3 - 1 1 – 0.5
Group Delay of B24 and M24 / msec 5 - 3 2 – 0.6 0.6 – 0.5 0.5 – 0.2

Both B24 and M24 perform below 2/3 of the audible group delay level in a constant falling curve w/o spikes.

Clear sound reproduction at its best – how to achieve?

All loudspeaker drivers have a very high sensitivity of 95 dB/W/m or higher -> no dynamic compression caused by voice coil heating up will occur. The peak power in a damped mastering room is < 50 W per channel at > 105 dB SPL.
So no audible frequency modulation distortion will happen.

How to set a new level of clear high frequency reproduction? — The annular diaphragm fixed on the inner and the outer ring of the horn tweeter in the Monitor M24 delivers incredible clarity and crispness compared to dome tweeters, which are fixed only on the outer ring of the membrane.

Both enclosures of Bass and Monitor are built with milled aluminum to avoid vibrations.
The enclosures have milled vertical grooves to disperse room reflections.
