when I built my Duetta Tops in March of 2012 and published my building report here on the forum, I finished by saying, I wonder what awaits me after the MiDu expansion I cant wait to find out!!! Well, when I finally got around to starting the new project, there were no more MiDus they had been replaced by the MiDu2. So I changed my half-finished plans to work with the MiDu2, which didnt take too long, since they are almost identical.

As we know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and beautiful sounds are in the ear of the listener. In the area of loudspeaker building, for whatever reason, we have gotten used to placing much more emphasis on the second part of that statement than the first. That means a great deal of attention is paid to diagram-readers; all of the jumps in the measurement curve are smoothed out, and the baffle board in particular is designed with the greatest of care.

I started with a VHS video recorder and a Trinitron 4:3 tube TV, and over the years I gradually expanded and improved my equipment fleet. When you think about why the Needle is so successful, its hard to find a really obvious reason. It features a small full-range speaker that wobbles around in a much-too-big cabinet, and its membrane area is much too small to reproduce the bass but at the same time far too big to generate high notes. That brings us to the next weakness, the extreme bundling at increasing frequencies, which means that at most one pair of ears can be in the sweet spot at any given time. The thing cant deal with higher volumes; it loses track of anything more complicated than a woman with a guitar or a man on the piano, and it does so many things wrong that any popular two-way speaker makes it sound about as thin as the cabinet looks. And yet people love it.

We took up the cause of dynamic home movie theater with enormous efficiency far over 90 dBS when we introduced the matching center to the Audible 17 and 34. If you want to reach a high level with fewer watts, you'll have to forego the bass depth. So our loud home theater was not complete with the fifth element because today the moving pictures depend on low-frequency effects which do not want to rank behing the satellite power. Another subwoofer had to be added which would shake the foundation. No problem.

It all started so harmlessly. I actually just wanted new speakers for my desk so that I can enjoy the music and not get just a droning in my ears. After some searching and then a lot of reading, the Quickly 14s took their place with me in the basement. Normally, this would have been the end because the plan was carried out.

It all started after we moved into our new home. I have some experience with building speakers, in the past I have build a horn, an active subwoofer and satellite speakers. There was also an unfinished project where I used Polyester mixed with sand and poured into a mold with an inside mold of polystyrene. It was on a summer day in the backyard of my parents house, there was no wind, the neighbors complained about the horrible styrene smell and finally finding out that I was using the wrong initiator that resulted in very high temperatures and in the end a cracked housing!! Disaster!! They ended up as bird houses in a deserted area of the garden. Back to now
