Der neue CatSynth × jhad 8×8 Matrix Mixer ist veröffentlicht!

Ob Audio, CV, Modulation oder Feedback: Mit 8 Inputs und 8 Outputs wird das Modul zur flexiblen Schaltzentrale für Routing, Mixing und experimentelle Signalwege im Eurorack. Signale lassen sich gezielt verteilen, kombinieren und neu verschalten – von subtilen Modulations-Mixes bis zu komplexen Feedback-Patches.

Für CatSynth ist dieses Release gleich doppelt besonders: Der 8×8 Matrix Mixer ist das erste unter dem Namen CatSynth entwickelte Modul mit mehr als 2HP – und zugleich das erste Modul in unserer neuen Optik mit schwarzer Schrift auf naturfarbenem Aluminium.

Entwickelt wurde das Modul gemeinsam mit Jeremy von jhad: direkt bedienbar, klar aufgebaut und gemacht für kreatives Patchen.

The new CatSynth × jhad 8×8 Matrix Mixer has officially been released!

Whether it’s audio, CV, modulation or feedback: with 8 inputs and 8 outputs, this module becomes a flexible hub for routing, mixing and experimental signal paths in your Eurorack system. Signals can be distributed, combined and re-routed with ease – from subtle modulation mixes to complex feedback patches.

For CatSynth, this release is special in two ways: the 8×8 Matrix Mixer is the first module developed under the CatSynth name with more than 2HP – and the first module featuring our new visual design with black print on natural aluminium.

Developed together with Jeremy from jhad, it is hands-on, clearly laid out and made for creative patching.

Kleines Status-Update vom Arbeitstisch:

Vier Matrix-Mixer-Module sind mittlerweile vollständig bestückt, ein Modul ist bereits komplett montiert.

Und ja: 64 Potis pro Modul bedeuten auch 64 Potis pro Modul von Hand eingelötet. Das ist durchaus meditativ — spätestens ab Reihe fünf.

Der erste Smoke-Test ist bestanden, die Grundfunktion ist top, und der erste Audio-Test war ebenfalls sehr erfreulich: Jenseits der linearen Charakteristik der Potis eignet sich das Modul wunderbar auch für Audio-Signale.

Jetzt folgen noch weitere Tests, Messungen und die finale Dokumentation.

A small status update from the workbench:

Four matrix mixer modules are now fully populated, and one module is already completely assembled.

And yes: 64 potentiometers per module also means 64 potentiometers per module soldered by hand. Quite meditative — at least until row five.

The first smoke test has passed, the basic functionality is excellent, and the first audio test was very encouraging as well: apart from the linear potentiometer response, the module also works beautifully with audio signals.

Next steps are further testing, measurements, and the final documentation.

Zum ersten Mal seit langer Zeit wird es ein CatSynth-Modul geben, das breiter als 2HP ist. Gleichzeitig führen wir eine komplett neue Frontpanel-Optik ein: schwarze Beschriftung auf natur eloxiertem Aluminium – klar, technisch und bewusst reduziert.

Ein weiteres First: Das Modul entsteht gemeinsam mit Jérémy von jhad, der die ursprüngliche Idee und wichtige Impulse für das Konzept eingebracht hat. Vielen Dank für die tolle Zusammenarbeit!

Our upcoming 8x8 Matrix Mixer marks several firsts for CatSynth:

For the first time since forever, we are making a CatSynth module that is wider than 2HP. At the same time, we are introducing a completely new front panel design: black print on natural anodized aluminium – clean, technical, and deliberately reduced.

Another first: this module is being developed together with Jérémy from jhad, who contributed the original idea and many important impulses for the concept. Thank you for the great collaboration!

The 8x8 Matrix Mixer is made for complex signal routing, feedback structures, modulation networks, and experimental patches that need direct and clear control.

Neues kleines Nebenprojekt: Patchbay 🎛️
Ziel: Perspektivisch ein Tool auf Basis von SAM-Audio, mit dem sich Samples viel gezielter extrahieren und bereinigen lassen – statt ewigem „Suchen & Schnippeln“.
Und ganz ehrlich: Ich hab mich schon dabei erwischt, die mitgelieferten AudioFX als Audacity-Alternative zu nutzen 😅

New little side project: Patchbay 🎛️
The goal: eventually, together with further SAM-Audio development, a tool that lets you extract and clean samples way more precisely—less “hunt & chop”, more targeted results.
Also… I already caught myself using the built-in AudioFX as an Audacity alternative 😅
