On 10 December 1948, the UN General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). Since then, a lot has happened and many things have changed for the better. Nevertheless, we are still far from a perfect world.
The developments of recent years have not made it any better on account of Corona, the increasing climate crisis and its consequences, inflation, wars and armed conflicts. Currently, the , the background of the in Qatar and the ongoing Ukraine war are in the public focus. But the disregard for human rights, dignity, freedom and equality runs through all countries, generations and social classes.
In a society committed to human rights, there will only be winners. But if we allow discrimination, division, intolerance, hatred and distrust to shape our community, we all lose. Every human being is free, every human being is valuable. We all want these rights for ourselves and we must treat our fellow human beings accordingly.
In doing so, the implementation of human rights is not limited to our immediate surroundings. In our globally interconnected world, all our deeds and actions have a wide reach. For example, every purchase, every product decision on our part, affects a whole range of people we will never get to see. This anonymity becomes a problem because we don't think about the manufacturing processes and working conditions that make our consumption possible.
For us as a company, the implementation of human rights means not only equality, diversity and dignity for all members of the wai-tech family, but also the guarantee of fair wages, good working conditions, occupational health and safety, protection against exploitation and abuse - not only in-house, but also, as far as we can control, along the entire value chain.
