🌊 The NERITES consortium met in Genoa for the 5th Project Meeting
On 25–26 February, partners of the NERITES Project gathered in Genoa, Italy, kindly hosted by Graal Tech, to review progress and prepare for the next crucial phase of the project.

During the meeting, partners discussed the development of the project’s technologies and the upcoming integration and testing activities ahead of the upcoming pilot deployments in:
📍 Archaeological Park of Baia, Italy
📍 Fournoi, Ikaria, Greece

The second day also included a presentation of the uBlueTec project, strengthening the synergy between the two initiatives in the field of innovative underwater technologies.

🔬🌊 NERITES was presented at the AMU UNESCO Chair International Conference by its coordinator, Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH).

The presentation focused on recent advances in underwater Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (UW-LIBS) and highlighted its potential as an innovative tool for in-situ chemical analysis, monitoring and protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

🌍 By addressing both the opportunities and technical challenges of applying LIBS in underwater environments, the contribution showed how advanced laser technologies can support sustainable monitoring strategies for submerged cultural assets, in line with the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

The presentation was delivered within the Special Session of the uBlueTec, underlining the synergies between uBlueTec and NERITES in advancing innovative technological solutions for Underwater Cultural Heritage.

NERITES was showcased at SPIE Photonics West 2026 in San Francisco, represented by project partner Alpes Lasers.

With over 20,000 participants from 85 countries, the event offered a unique platform to engage with academia and industry and highlight how advanced photonic and laser technologies can support the monitoring of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

In December 2025, NERITES joined ICAVS-13 / ICES5, where Leonora Podvorica ( University of Ulm) presented key project findings on the long-term stability of polymer coatings for Mid-IR underwater sensing, using advanced spectroscopic and analytical methods.
