Copernicus Masters Copernicus Masters is the leading platform for commercial Earth observation applications.

Since 2011, the annual Copernicus Masters competition has awarded prizes to the best projects and business ideas involving commercial applications based on Earth observation data. In this year's edition, prizes will be awarded in topic-specific challenges sponsored by a number of world-class partners, including: the European Space Agency (ESA), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), T-Systems Internat

ional GmbH, Satellite Applications Catapult Ltd., Greece's National Cadastre and Mapping Agency (NCMA), CloudEO AG, and European Space Imaging GmbH. In addition, the new University Challenge specifically addresses students and research assistants around the world. The prize pool, in addition to cash prizes, primarily includes support for the commercial realisation of the winning ideas, data access, and the chance to enter the incubation programme of one of Europe's 11 ESA Business Incubation Centres (BICs). The overall winner - the Copernicus Master - will be selected from among the winners of each challenge by a panel of experts. Those interested are invited to submit their innovative ideas from 15 April to 20 July 2015. The Copernicus Masters competition is organised by Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen.

Our Story

AZO Anwendungszentrum GmbH Oberpfaffenhofen launched the Copernicus Masters in 2011 on behalf of the European Space Agency (ESA) and with the strong support of world-class partners as part of their mission to foster the User Uptake of the Copernicus programme.

The Copernicus Masters is looking for new applications in Earth observation (EO) addressing a wide area of application fields. These include agriculture, environmental protection, transportation and urban management just to name a few. EO and big data from space offer great potential for the creation of innovative products and services.

With prize partners such as the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Commission (EC), the German Aerospace Center (DLR), CGI, Planet Labs Ltd, BayWa AG, Stevenson Astrosat Ltd., Airbus, Satellite Applications Catapult Ltd., and the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI), the competition awards prizes to innovative solutions for business and society.

With the expansion of the Copernicus Space Component every year, new prize categories enable solutions that tackle global challenges. Those interested are invited to submit their innovative ideas from 1 April to 30 June 2018.
